My dh suffered from severe paracetamol allergy and is asthmatic. He is due to get his jab early next month.

Just wondering does anybody know if Pfizer is suitable for those suffer from the above mentioned allergy?

Dh weirdly is also allergic to paracetamol and non steroidal anti inflammatorys such as ibuprofen. His gp has advised him to have the Oxford jab over pfeizer

If paracetamol is his only allergy at that level he can have the Pfizer jab. It does not contain paracetamol. If he is allergic to something else as badly (i.e. with face or throat swelling) he should not receive it with current guidelines.

Please don’t get this kind of advice from people on the internet. Ask your gp.

have a look at the package leaflet.

they are published here
you might need to seatch a bit for the right one.

They will ask him and he will fill out a form.

They would not give him the vaccine if he’s allergic.

I agree with the point that a decision should not be based on advice on here. But I suspect you are worried that he may turn up and it end up that he can’t get it despite the anticipation and hope he’ll get it. I think given advice not to call GPs etc people are being put off calling for any vaccine related reason and I can understand people reaching out here. It is an emotional roller coaster if people are weighing up vulnerabilities, COVID fear and delays.

FWIW you get asked about allergies, if the person vaccinating has concerns they’ll call the Dr over who will ask any relevant questions and give advice. They may ask the person to wait 30 mins rather than 15 for observation afterwards. Highly unlikely to be turned away as the contraindication is allergies to things in the vaccine, which does not include paracetamol.

My dh is terrible when it comes to his health concern. He never had a flu jab before so I cant derived any idea from there. He also told me he vaguely remembered the GP told him he is allergic to anything ending in - ol (before anybody ask, no affinity to drinking 😉).

Thank you guys for the advice. He will just have to drive there and wait and see.
