What is the plan for keeping children safe?

I know there are plenty of posts about schools etc but what are the plans for keeping children safe? I’m seeing more and more social media posts about children with long Covid and this is my biggest fear as a Mum with long Covid. I’ve not been watching the news or press statements but catch up on BBC website and haven’t seen a thing. Will they ever be vaccinated? Could it be added to the flu vaccine like H1N1?

Yes, it was at the press conference yesterday, in response to a question.

I don't remember verbatim, but it's for the most exceptionally vulnerable DC only (not all those originally asked to shield, just those who stayed on the list after the paed review last summer) and in light of an consultant's individual risk/benefit assessment.

What I think is needed, now that JVT has said publicly that it's inconceivable there is no effect on transmission, is that cohabitants of the CEV (perhaps including cohabitants of all DC who were ever asked to shield) should be eligible to be immunised. Because they need what he described as 'surround sound' protection, as there is still uncertainty on how well the vaccines work in those with certain co-morbidities

The original (pre-approval) MHRA guidance had cohabitants of CEV included in priority 6. I think it is time to reinstate.

Thankyou @scaevola
It's all been more vague than I think people realise.
Ds went back in September, after a discussion with his GP and paed, who said if cases start rising or things change, to revise situation.
After a term of illness, self isolation and cases starting to rise, we were advised to keep him home.
His GP wrote letters saying it would be safest to be home, and again at Christmas.
He received shielding letters throughout and a new one at the start of this lockdown.
I will be vaccinated in group 6 as ds's carer, dh will be in with the over 50s, but of course there is the risk of his sister's (13 and 14) bringing it back from school, and risk for ds when he goes back to school.
His GP and Paed did not seem to think he would be able to get the vaccine.
I know that most of my friends who have medically vulnerable children are in a similar no man's land, and of course, it's really hard to get hold of paeds at the moment!!
