6yo Positive... chances of the rest of household catching it??

DD6 has just tested positive for Covid with extremely mild symptoms, tested as had been in close contact at school.

How have others managed to avoid it spreading within the household? We have 2 teens who keep to their rooms a lot anyway but DD spends a lot of time downstairs and around the house. Is it feasible to keep her contained to 1 room? What have others done in this situation? I think me and DH will likely get it anyway, she still creeps in and sleeps with us most nights.

I'm quietly panicking and DH is freaking out.

It's a bit random from what I've read. I think if it happened in our family we'd rock paper scissors for who sleeps with child, then try and keep others away for 10 days. Definitely wouldn't try to confine to one room.

You can’t keep a 6 yo to one room. I’d try to keep the teens away from her if you can.

My 6 yo is in school, and I’ve thought what will I do if he tests positive as older Dd has asthma.

Just try to keep them apart I guess - separate meal times, keep cleaning the bathroom if there’s only one etc

Don’t treat the 6 yo as a pariah though as it’s not her fault

I think remember to ventilate the rooms he's been in would be useful - having windows open will mean the viral load is less. Separate towels / own bathroom (if possible).

Thanks I didn't mean shutting her in a room more that I'd try and keep her to her bedroom with me there too, but agree it's not feasible. Sorry not quite thinking straight it's a bit of a shock.

Our DD9 tested positive in December (also with very mild symptoms). We all just carried on as usual at home, close contact etc. None of the rest of the family got it in the end (even though I was on edge for two weeks seeing if anyone else developed symptoms!). It does seem random...

DilysMoon · 28/01/2021 17:07

Thanks mizzlestick that's reassuring. Got all windows open, teens and DH keeping to themselves pretty much. I keep thinking I'm starting to feel off but then fine but I think it's just being anxious.

Is your DH vulnerable

swashbucklecheer · 28/01/2021 17:12

Our ds5 had it. I tested positive at the same time. My DH and DS10 didn't get it. We didn't isolate in the house just no kissing or cuddles for the 14 days as it was then.

DilysMoon · 28/01/2021 17:19

Thanks good to know, no DH isn't vulnerable just an anxious sort when it comes to health.

With the old strain I believe it was common to have one person infected only, even without strict si, with this new strain I'm not sure...

HomeFailing · 28/01/2021 17:25

5 of us in thw house here. One ds got it and none of the rest of us did.

Nicknacky · 28/01/2021 17:26

Are you both particularly vulnerable?
