Anyone doing regular lateral flow testing?

How do you find it? We've just been offered this at work. To be honest it sounds like a massive faff to go through twice a week and I am not keen on the swabbing. Is it worth it?

@Wishitsnows

If you want 100% accuracy in China they do an anal swabs now! No idea how that works through the car window at testing stations.
Maybe that's why there were so many adverts all over the internet for the famous MN bum flap onsie GrinGrin

I’m working at a test centre as a processor for LFD, I test every day I’m in. The biggest faff is the online form. 50% of asymptomatic carriers if far better than none

CompleteBarstool · 27/01/2021 19:01

I'm tested weekly at work (if I worked full time it would be twice a week) and although it's not the most pleasant thing to have done I'm more than happy for it to continue for peace of mind and to help keep my work colleagues and my family safer.

We don't do them ourselves so don't have the recording problems, that's down to the testing team.

Bluewavescrashing · 27/01/2021 19:04

I test twice weekly using lateral flow tests (primary teacher). It was a faff the first time but easier now. It's the only protection I have so I'll do it even though it's inconvenient and uncomfortable.

VicSynix · 27/01/2021 19:22

I work from home for the NHS, but I'm currently doing one day a week at a Vaccination clinic. Got my own box of lateral flow tests and always do it before I head to the clinic. I've also had the first Vaccination so I reckon regular testing and reporting will help with data.

Still makes my eyes water though.

MardyBicardi · 27/01/2021 19:24

I test twice weekly, it’s fine, no faff at all it’s only 5 minuets.
Don’t mind it at all. It doesn’t make my eyes water but it does make me gag.

Bbq1 · 27/01/2021 20:09

I am able to test twice weekly as a TA but I'm going one a fortnight as we are on rota's anyway atm so not in ever week. Tests take place after school in the school hall. I find it reassuring and feel I am protecting my family doing this. Also protecting colleagues and vulnerable children. It's no hassle.

RaggieDolls · 27/01/2021 20:20

DH has them everyday at his private sector company. It's a non issue for them and seems to working well.

We are starting to pilot using them in my public sector work in the next few weeks. I'm hoping they roll it out wider after that.

Reinventinganna · 27/01/2021 20:24

@lonelyplanet ah, fortunately I’ve not had any issues logging my results. Our trust intranet seems to have a good system to log results.
That does sound like a pain.

BG2015 · 27/01/2021 20:25

Did my first one today, I'm a teacher. Got to do them twice a week now every wed/thurs and sun/mon.

It was ok, I watched the video and followed the instructions but agree putting the information into the app is a pain.

Kitcat122 · 27/01/2021 20:27

Yes twice weekly. I'm glad to do it. It's not overly accurate but it all helps. Defo makes my eyes water 💦

lonelyplanet · 27/01/2021 20:33

One of my concerns is the vast quantity of them going into landfill. The original instructions, before the nhs rebranded them, said that they needed to be disposed of as bio-hazardous waste.

FelicityBeedle · 27/01/2021 21:46

@lonelyplaney Throigh asymptomatic testing centres ours get collected as Biohazards. Are work places not being given small biohazard bins for them?
Although truthfully a negative one is probably less hazardous than a snotty tissue in a normal non

Yep been doing them since before xmas. Twice a week, when I remember 😆
A couple of colleagues have had positive results. They then have to have the pcr test to confirm.
When my 12 weeks worth has finished I will get some more. I find it reassuring and once you've done a couple and know what you're doing it doesn't take long

MissSchem · 16/02/2021 17:15

4 x positive LFT in a fortnight...3 x negative PCR (awaiting 4th result). Fed up! Not a waste of time but am I positive or not?!

Fuckadoodledoooo · 16/02/2021 17:19

BIL is a teacher. Has to do it on Sunday and Wednesday evenings before 6pm so the head can arrange cover if positive.

Needingsupportplease · 16/02/2021 17:19

We do it twice weekly. Someone came back negative, whole family was positive they went for a proper test and were positive (no symptoms)

Pastanred · 16/02/2021 17:24

Lft do have false positives

I heard lft pick up old infection too (hence you can’t test within 90 days or having covid) whereas pcr are likely to be current infection
