My dm had her jab Saturday.we were really pleased for her as she is shielding and lives alone. She didn't even want to form a bubble with anyone.
I can understand the excitement as I will be excited to get my jab. She understood that the is no immediate immunity and the doc told her to.pn the way home she tried to go to Waitrose but luckily it was too busy. Then she decided to go in several shops with the same relative who took her for her jab!!
The message isn't getting through it seems and when a customer had a go that she was going the wrong way she td me well I've had my jab.😐
I know she is an adult but why isn't the message from JVT and the others getting through.Anyone else had this.?

Your title is misleading. My work colleagues and I were vaccinated and have not been doing that. We're nhs lab staff

HelloMissus · 27/01/2021 15:16

So basically she went to some shops.
Hardly going out.

Bagelsandbrie · 27/01/2021 15:19

If she understands the risks then it’s down to her isn’t it? She isn’t breaking any rules. Shielding is really hard (I’m in the clinically extremely vulnerable group and supposed to be shielding). Maybe she’s just had enough of shielding...?

itsgettingweird · 27/01/2021 15:20

I think people are only hearing what they want to hear.

Mostly because they've been inside for so long and need to get out. But also because we've had this legged as our lifeline to normality for so long combined with cabin fever people are taking all the good bits and taking risks.

I'm having mine Friday. It'll be 3 weeks before I know I personally have some immunity. But I also understand I could still catch it and could still spread it. I also have LFT weekly through work.

But I do wonder if it's because I'm out having contact with adults daily through work my mindset is different? For me it's not about getting out and about. I know how anxiety driving that can be still. It's about being safer if I contract it when out and about.

ScrapThatThen · 27/01/2021 15:22

She's just demob happy getting out. We are humans not machines and she has to make her own decisions on the information out there.

FinallyFluid · 27/01/2021 15:25

I am shielding, I had it yesterday, I am not going anywhere for three weeks, so just because your Mother is being monumentally selfish and may I say stupid don't tar everyone with the same brush. Angry

Jesus my 19 year old has more sense.

I had my first vaccination last Thursday, and it's made me even more determinated not to catch covid until both DH and myself have hadosof doses of our vaccinations. Even at that point, we will be living well within any restrictions and I'll be in no rush to get close to others until the majority of people are vaccinated.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 27/01/2021 15:38

Same here. I'm NHS non clinical staff, we've had the first jab, we're still sitting alone in offices, wearing marks in corridors/kitchen/toilets and whenever in the presence of another person, and if we occasionally need to speak to each other doing so from the office doorway or from well over 2m away. I've seen nobody outside work apart from my support bubble, my colleagues are all still abiding by restrictions.

I don't know, why don't you ask your mum? Your thread title is totally misleading and is based on what your mum is doing.

FinallyFluid · 27/01/2021 15:47

Interesting first post though.

Thiscantreallybehappening · 27/01/2021 15:51

She's just demob happy getting out. We are humans not machines and she has to make her own decisions on the information out there.

Except those decisions might end up infecting someone else with covid who hasn't had the vaccine yet. How many times do the scientists need to say it - having the vaccine doesn't stop you transmitting it to other people.

Heatherjayne1972 · 27/01/2021 15:56

This is only the start
We will get to a point where half of us are vaccinated and half not and then the minority will be unvaccinated
As that happens I expect to see much more of this attitude as people consider themselves’free’ and for them it’s ‘all over’

Yes you are right. She is only human and has endured a lot.
I didn't mean to imply that everyone who has had the jab feels this way.I apologise.
It seems daft to go in several shops to me but I am in no way perfect and she is an adult.

She went to some shops , which is allowed ? Thats not really breaking lockdown , ok she went with person who took her for jab but as she doesn't have a bubble that would basically be it.
Yes getting close to someone and not understanding , but my nan is 87 and my step nan 82 , they understand .
Lots of people breaking rules without the jab too

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 27/01/2021 16:05

Also only a couple shops open so can't been to too many as they are shut

WetJan · 27/01/2021 16:38

I have had both Covid (Nov) and the vaccine (12 days ago) and I am bloody isolating due to another sodding cough. I've not left the fecking house apart from getting my test

whatisforteamum · 27/01/2021 18:41

Bless you Wetjan I hope you feel better soon.Xx

Ive been told by work(nhs) that even when I have my 2nd vaccine I have to stay shielding until shielding is over. I don't understand why but that's what they say. I am currently working from home but really want to get back to the office.
I wouldn't be going to the shops until at least the 3 weeks after 2nd jab.

LadyCatStark · 27/01/2021 18:53

I can understand why she’d want to go to the shops. It’s not like she’s out partying. But my mum had the vaccination 2 weeks ago and now has Covid. She caught it from working in a care home and all but 1 member of staff and 2 residents have tested positive since having the vaccination. 3 residents have sadly died so far.

whatisforteamum · 27/01/2021 19:38

Oh goodness ladycatstark that is terrible. She is aware she can still catch coronavirus. Maybe it was the simple act of going for the jab that reminded her what she is missing.Seems a shame to risk it now.
