How hopeful are we 😁

@TheRaccoon

Are any measures being taken to make them safer?!
Our school is taking part in a pilot scheme to do saliva testing on all school children. Obviously been tested on key worker and vulnerable at the moment but will be whole school when they go back.
JanuaryChill · 27/01/2021 14:54

Many Y11s and 13s have missed their planned mocks altogether....

What a totally inaccurate heading you've written OP, just so that you can exercise your sarcasm.

March 8th is the earliest date that ministers hope to start reopening schools. It is still contingent on many things.

( Yes, teachers, I know - schools aren't closed. I'm just quoting what it states in a newspaper Grin).

What are you talking about 😂😂 No one else around to start a nonsense argument with.

That would be interesting given Johnson was still trumpeting the "Schools are safe" line in PMQs today.
RedToothBrush · 27/01/2021 15:21

Key phrase, "hopes to begin re-opening schools"
A lot will depend on the vaccine, hospital admissions, etc.

Political English to Plain English Translation:
If you are in the NW where hospital admission are peaking this week you are probably still buggered. So don't hold your breath if you live in an area where cases are still very high and hospitals are still up shit creek this week.

Also, we may not be able to reopen schools because we need to do the 4 priority groups still and we aren't 100% confident we have enough vaccine yet.

We know we have to start to look like we give a shit about teachers because enough people have moaned about it. So we are going to make a point of vaccinating all the teachers first to show how wonderful we are (rather than admit actually health and safety is quite important afterall and the unions have had a point all alongabout treating teachers like shit) - providing we have enough vaccination. So don't blame us if the schools are delayed - we are just being nice.

We however we reserve the right to use the row with AZ and the EU to give us a get out of jail free card if we don't reopen schools by the 8th 'because vaccines'.

Also see 'perfect scapegoat'.

HTH.

DS's school are meant to be having their second set of mocks (they did Paper 1 mocks in December) in February, straight after half term, not sure what will happen now

RedToothBrush · 27/01/2021 15:36

DS's school had key worker and vulnerable kids sent home because of a positive test.

sashagabadon · 27/01/2021 15:40

Good news

sweetgingercat · 27/01/2021 15:43

How can he have a clearer picture of the vaccination program if virtually no one has had the second jab by then?

Devlesko · 27/01/2021 15:45

I'd like them to go back when the science (not gov scientists) dictates it's safe.
Until then, mine will be wfh.

Comefromaway · 27/01/2021 15:51

It's shit for the kids and it is all totally un-necessary.

if the government had actually listened to teachers and school leaders BACK IN AUGUST/SEPTEMBER and allowed them to implement measures to make schools safer like were being implemented in other workplaces then we'd never have got to this state.

My kids are both studying vocational, skills based courses. Funding restraints mean it's impossible to repeat a year and it doesn;t matter if they get their qualifications on paper, if can't perform the skills at interview for jobs or higher education they won't get it.

Dd was in a constant state of stress at her school due to how unsafe the environment was. In the rest of her life it was being drummed into her to be socially distant, act like you have the virus, yet the second she crossed teh school threshold all the rules went out of the (non existent) window.

Ds on the other hand saw no reason why he should not be allowed to be at college due to all the measures they (as an FE college) were allowed to implement. This is despite being in an area of high community infections.

Fembot123 · 27/01/2021 15:52

I work at a secondary school if that makes any difference to delusions of my malicious intent 😂

Would be nice if the kids, parents and teachers could have a break from schooling during that period longer than the one week half-term!

Fembot123 · 27/01/2021 15:53

Not a teacher though so I’m physically in.

That would be nice, teachers are working flat out as are homeschooling parents.

My primary school officially has around 10% of kids in as KW/Vs, in 5 groups of

Hello my love, hope you and yours are well.

Dd has been given the option of repeating a year, even considering the funding aspects.
Also, continuing to wfh when they are allowed back, if she wants to.
Thought it would be of interest to you as not so different schools.
Music lessons and concerts can be challenging if dh is teaching online at the same time, but we are getting there.

peak2021 · 27/01/2021 16:20

I don't expect all children to be returning to school on 8 March. I don't expect a proper detailed strategy on 22 February, just the minimum Mr Johnson thinks he can get away with to placate those backbenchers who want no or few restrictions.

Comefromaway · 27/01/2021 18:13

She’s getting increasingly upset devlesko because if she has a problem with WiFi freezing or the other day when she was ill and missed a class the teacher isn’t going over things again so she sometimes then has 2-3 further classes where she has no idea what she’s doing as they are practising what they did before that she missed.

She’s questioning if she’s actually getting anything out of it at the moment.

I'm so sorry to hear this, it's soul destroying when they have put in so much effort. It's hard to keep going at times. Mine is concontrating on audition material for two instruments as unsure which to take as first study. I'm not sure what she'd be like if she didn't have this busy time.

About as much chance as me winning the national lottery.

I never buy a ticket

So not very likely, I always thought after Easter.

Anyway what do I know [apparently] I am just a thick, teacher hating, founder of U4T or something. Wink Grin Hmm

I always thought Easter too, this does feel very much like a fob off here.
