I want to pick something up, I live very close to one but its tiddly and doesn't have what I need in stock. My next nearest is six miles away, just over the county border. I can do my food essentials shop whilst I'm there.

Someone has been brainwashing me about anpr 🙄

I drove to the lakes In First lockdown..about 90 miles away.
It was a beautiful day, weather good, I felt well..so we just did it.
It was uplif and therapeutic.
We spoke to a chap who was paddle boarding on ullswater..he was from Manchester.

You’ve got to do what’s best for you.

Was it busy? We had massive problems with crowds in the Peak District, people climbing up Snowdon and the seaside resorts being overcrowded.

Good thing most people aren’t this selfish.

What’s the difference between you and Dominic Cummings?

Mylittlesandwich · 27/01/2021 11:34

Yes, I live right on the edge of my council area, so have to leave for some things. We also travelled 150 miles for a funeral last week and were not asked a single question about where we came from, where we were going or what we were doing.

redsquirrelfan · 27/01/2021 11:39

It's fine, and while Devon & Cornwall police claimed they were using ANPR to check that people were not travelling long distances for exercise (I say claimed, because I think it's nonsense) they're not going to check registration plates in supermarkets.

In any event the "stay local" guidance is GUIDANCE not law and it only applies to exercise, not essential shopping.

So we can all do what we think is best for us can we? Ignore the guidance and start going on holiday, having large parties, meeting all our friends and family etc

What a stupid selfish attitude

Yes, of course you can.

I live 6 miles from a city which has very high levels of covid, and 12 miles from a market town which has much lower levels. Guess where I do my supermarket shopping?

combatbarbie · 27/01/2021 18:43

Well if I leave my house and turn left I have 15 miles and go over a county border, if I turn right I have 17 miles but I'm still in my county.... Both have supermarkets. Common sense prevails surely. I go to whatever one has the things I need dependant on the weekly shop (usually when running out of the pet/garden wildlife stuff.

Can you. Yes.
Should you is a different question. Will someone go hungry or be without heat/warmth/shelter it you don't?

She’s going to a supermarket. Isn’t the answer pretty obvious?

Oh for goodness sake. It's fine to go 6 miles for something in a shop that is allowed to open even if it's not deemed absolutely essential to human life. We're going to be in lockdown for months so we can't all live off bread and water and buy nothing else.
lalaland2 · 27/01/2021 21:05

You can literally get on a plane and fly to another country (that will have us) so I don't see why not
