Vaccine side effects

I don’t want to put anyone off getting it, I don’t regret having it but I’m really suffering. My whole body hurts, throat, head and have a raised temp. Paracetamol not helping, can I take ibuprofen too? Any other advice? Seems like an extreme reaction that it’s left me feeling as though I have actual flu, I’ve tried to ring 111 but they’re too busy.

Could be the side effects. I had headache and chills after mine but not like you describe. Could be worth getting a covid test what is your temp?

Rupertpenrysmistress · 27/01/2021 07:31

Yes you can take ibuprofen (assuming you are not allergic or have any medical reasons to avoid) drink plenty and rest. But I do suggest a covid test.

Newbreadsmell · 27/01/2021 07:31

I think it’s supposed to be short lived off that’s any consolation...

UnmentionedElephantDildo · 27/01/2021 07:34

This is where you report side effects

coronavirus-yellowcard.mhra.gov.uk

If you are worried about side effects, keep going with 111 or contact your GP.

If the temperature is very high, or has listed more than the immediate period after the jab, you need a covid test

I had the Astra Zeneca and I felt like I was getting flu afterwards.
Headache, so tired, and chills in my back the day after. Second day I felt a bit ‘off’ and tired, but that was it.
Paracetamol and Brufen, and lots of fluids.

Nonamesavail · 27/01/2021 07:46

I had Pfizer and no side effects hope you feel better soon x

Chailatteplease · 27/01/2021 08:23

I had a negative covid result yesterday morning. I had had a headache and slight sore throat for a few days before so tested but negative.
I had the Astra Zeneca one too, seems people get more side effects with that one. I just wasn’t expecting it to be this bad. I have ME/CFS but rarely get viruses/infections and when I do the symptoms stay mild.
Temp is 38. Usual for me is between 36 and 36.5. I’ve taken paracetamol and ibuprofen and brought it down to 37 so not feeling as bad now.
Will have to stay in bed for the day though, zero energy/strength.

Thanks everyone for the reassurance! Again I hope I’ve not put anyone off having it, still think it’s better than the alternative.

Chailatteplease I know someone with similar health issues to yourself who also felt awful, but all resolved in less than 48hrs, a day in bed sounds like a good plan Smile

I felt sick for the rest of the day (a bit like a hangover) after mine. I was still able to work/do other things and still managed a plateful of pizza and oven chips (the only thing I fancied). From what I can gather the side effects are generally short lived and I'd have my second vaccine today if I could.

Both sides of our family have had covid in the last month (eight people in total), only one had lesser symptons similar to vaccine side effects, the others aged 23-86 - heavy cold/aches
no energy and two were very breathless (lucky they managed it at home though). One is still in hospital and another other having xray and blood tests.

My dad was the same with the added symptom of vertigo. Couldn’t stand up and walk unaided. The worst of it lasted one day. After a couple of days he was back to normal.

Chailatteplease · 27/01/2021 08:52

You have all put my mind at rest, Thankyou! It’s very difficult not to be afraid of being ill when you have a chronic illness already. But I know quite a few people who are still struggling after having covid months later, so it was a no brainer for me. I will expect to feel better in a couple of days.

As always, if you start to feel worse and not better, give 111 a ring for advice.

DinosaurDiana · 27/01/2021 09:33

The day after I had to go back to bed in the afternoon, and I slept for a couple of hours - and that’s not like me.
Just look after yourself, it will go 💐

Sorry you are feeling unwell.

Both my aunt and mother have had the vaccine over the past few days and have both experienced what you say. They both felt like they had the flu for a day or so, starting on the afternoon/evening after they had morning vaccinations.

However, after 24 to 48 hours they improved.

I read that one in ten experience those symptoms and I think they were it (I know lots of others who have been fine).
Hope you feel better soon.
