I got covid back in March and am still suffering now, good days and bad days,
The fear has suddenly hit me again and I’m getting anxious I’m going to be reinfected and it will make me very ill/even worse.
I’ve read such different opinions/reports on reinfection, from the lovely oldish medical guy on YouTube saying it’s possible but very unlikely and if caught twice, findings have seen it being a lot milder to others saying it’s possible and it’s much worse.
Anyone to offer any medical wisdom or true facts on this? I’m getting to the high anxiety stage about it and can’t go through it all again and to a possibly much more negative degree.

I have no facts or medical knowledge but I just want to say I'm sorry that you're feeling this way. Flowers It's so hard not having the answers you need.

I haven't heard anything about it being worse second time around though, if that's worth anything.

Hi OP! I had it back in march April. I was starting to feel.similar to you but I've now had the first vaccine so I feel like with having had it once, and being vaccinated, the chances of me getting again must surely be pretty low.

You'll probably feel better when you've had the vaccine. Hang in there Flowers (though if you've had covid already, you might not feel great for a day or two after the vaccine. This passes though)

If you’re anxious you need to stop watching ‘old medical guy on YouTube’. Not meant harshly but you’re doing yourself no favours there.

I have read a few things about it, and the reality no one has enough evidence to be sure.

The general informed view is they have evidence of very unlikely to be reinfected up to 5 months. It is 5 months as this is just the period in the study so far. Likely to be longer but they don't know if one year or 10 years.

The consensus is that were someone reinfected, it is likely to be very mild but because it is a new virus there isn't the evidence to publish conclusive facts

The mild infection though is similar to people who caught it just after getting vaccinated (in trials). They had very mild effects and no deaths so still a positive outcome

I’ve had it twice, the 2nd time was much less bad than the first, fewer symptoms and less breathing issues. Just like a regular virus with slight breathlessness.

I’m actually hoping the 2nd round will help kick out the 1st lot - as like with you - the virus is still squatting so to speak!

All you can do it keep yourself as healthy as possible.

The long COVID group on Facebook is very supportive.

@KeepWashingThoseHands It’s Dr John Campbell, a revered, sensible doctor.

FOJN · 27/01/2021 09:48

Dr John Campbell is a nurse with a PhD, 40 years in health care and is/was a Senior Lecturer in Nursing Studies at the University of Cumbria. He's written a couple of books and has been posting YouTube videos for about 10 years.
His videos throughout the pandemic have been excellent; informative, evidence based and realistic without clickbait titles which provoke panic.

TransplantedScouser · 27/01/2021 09:51

I watch John Campbells videos every day and agree with you assessment.

The one thing that does annoy me about him though is he's totally one sided in terms of everything must be done to stop the virus.

he's often saying things like don't do X now, there will be good times to do X later

without any acknowledgement of the fact that if this goes on much longer, there won't be any X's to do
