did anyone have coronavirus without losing their sense of taste and smell?

have name changed for this

i had coronavirus last year in March - not a confirmed case via swab/lateral flow but I had all the symptoms and a month later I tested positive for the antibodies. Literally couldn't taste or smell anything for months, had one day of a fever then a cough for a day.

last 2 weeks I have had a dreadful cold. I should also say I am asthmatic so usually when I get a cold, I cough. I have had to go into work every now and then so I had a coronavirus test last week (a private one) which was negative and I have to say it does not feel like coronavirus, it feels like a cold (i haven't had a fever). The test was negative.

the problem now is the cough is so bad it is making me throw up. I called the GP and they won't see me because I have coronavirus symptoms even though I have tested negative last week. I can try and call back again tomorrow to get an appointment but ultimately, for someone to see me, I need to test again and that will take at least 3 days (from time for me to get a test to get a result).

I would just like the sodding steroids (which I normally get when I have a bad cough even without coronavirus) but is there a chance I have covid if I had a test already that was negative (when i already had cold symptoms) if I've had no fever, no loss of taste and smell?

what I can't decide is whether to get another test or just insist that the GP give me something in the interim given I had a test last week that was negative?

I had a positive test with no loss of taste or smell. I did feel nauseous with it though and had a slightly odd taste in my mouth for about 2 weeks.

do you think it's worth me getting another test? I just don't know if it would suddenly appear if it wasn't there last week

I don't want to waste anyone's time but I am worried the cough is getting worse not better

I think it is quite common not to have any of the typical symptoms. I tested postive with a headache, fatigue and a blocked nose.

Could you have a telephone appointment with your gp for a prescrption and send someone else to collect it?

I called the GP but at the moment, I can't get an appointment. I have to try again at 830am tomorrow but I've tried a few days and I can't get through.

We have a walk in clinic but I can't go with coronavirus symptoms so I'm a bit stuck! It's so frustrating!

maybe I should just suck it up and get another test and then at least I can tell them it's negative and in the meantime, keep trying at 830 to get someone to call me back

In your situation I would get a test, yes. I had a fever with covid but I know someone who had none of the usual symptoms and tested positive. They thought they had a cold!

Day 14 here after positive test and just starting to feel better. Aches, fevers, nausea, dreadful cough, feeling like hit by bus and exhausted. But, no loss of taste or smell at any point!

thanks - we've got a walk in testing site near me here so have managed to book a slot for tonight
