Would you go the supermarket 14 days post vaccine

supermarketsooty · 26/01/2021 09:43

Had my 1st dose of Pfizer 14 days ago and I can't get a delivery slot for this week.

Do you think I should risk going to the supermarket? How safe would you feel?

I didn't go to a supermarket between March and August, I stopped again in November .
I plan to go 3 weeks after my vaccine, I am CEV.I would just wait until the end of this week if you can.

piscis · 26/01/2021 09:55

Are you CEV or over 80?

Otherwise it is a bit extreme not to want to go to the supermarket at all, even without a vaccine; how do people manage not to go at all? I do a big online shopping when I can, but it is not that easy to find delivery slots, last time I did it was like 10 days ago and It still arrives this Saturday. Last time I had it delivered they didnt deliver the meat I had ordered (all the protein, they must had forgotten that bag!), so obviously I have to go sometimes, vaccine or not.

*shop

herecomesthsun · 26/01/2021 09:57

can you get click and collect? Or Amazon delivery?

CovidPostingName · 26/01/2021 10:16

I've been going weekly throughout. Unless you're CEV or very elderly there's no real reason why you couldn't go. Whether you want to is up to you.

CovidPostingName · 26/01/2021 10:17

If you are either of those categories it would have been useful to say so. You could be NHS frontline or care staff, for whom gong the the supermarket poses little to no personal risk.

Undisclosedlocation · 26/01/2021 10:21

Well most of us have been going every week throughout plus going to work, the pharmacy, kids in school etc etc) without a vaccine. Unless you are CEV, I’m not sure I understand the logic behind your question

If you are CEV, unless you are elderly the advice as I understand it is that after 2 weeks you have built good immunity anyway. If older it can apparently take nearer to 3 weeks. So your risk level has already dramatically decreased and if you time your visit to the far end of the week, you will be even lower risk

supermarketsooty · 26/01/2021 10:22

Sorry should have said am NHS staff and no risk factors apart from BAME and in a high covid area. I've just avoided going to the supermarket because so many people
Say that caught it there!

OP posts:
roundturnandtwohalfhitches · 26/01/2021 10:24

Just go late at night when it's quiet if you're worried. I went to Morrisons at 9 last night and there must've been about 5 other people there.

Undisclosedlocation · 26/01/2021 10:25

Nobody has the first idea where they caught it though!

If asked if they have visited the supermarket, almost everyone will say yes. The assumption will follow that they caught it there and the data will get massively skewed

The biggest statistically risky places are hospitals, care homes and the like.

FenEel · 26/01/2021 10:27

Well I go to the supermarket regularly anyway, never stopped - and the ones I go to are not crowded, - so yes, I would go to the supermarket after vaccination just as before. Have not had Covid so far.

smoothchange · 26/01/2021 10:28

What would you have done if you couldn't get a delivery slot 3 weeks ago?

Do that.

londongirl12 · 26/01/2021 10:30

Go when it's quiet, stay away from everyone. Clean your hands. I'm sure you'll more likely catch it working for NHS

KylieKoKo · 26/01/2021 10:30

I'm also BAME with no risk factors and live in a high prevalence area and have been going to the supermarket throughout. There are no delivery slots here and I have to eat

So yes, I would.

redsquirrelfan · 26/01/2021 10:46

Well given most of us (including many over 80s) are going to the supermarket without having been vaccinated at all, of course.

Even if you're CEV 14 days has already gone by.

user1493494961 · 26/01/2021 10:47

You might get an Iceland delivery, I know they're not for everyone but you can get the basics.

redsquirrelfan · 26/01/2021 10:47

Supermarkets aren't busy all the time at all. I went yesterday lunchtime and there was hardly anyone in either of the two shops I went into. Just pick your time - not Saturday morning.

AuntyClementine · 26/01/2021 10:50

Depends on your circumstances.

I’ve been going throughout and no issues here.

Buzzinwithbez · 26/01/2021 10:50

Our supermarket is deathly quiet around 7. Go. Take headphones and listen to something more pleasant that the doom and gloom messages that are on every minute or so.

bookmarket · 26/01/2021 10:53

Just go at a quiet time in the evening.

supermarketsooty · 26/01/2021 10:55

Thanks I think it makes sense to go in the evening when it is quiet. Am sure it will be fine. Thank you!

OP posts:
wasthataburp · 26/01/2021 11:05

Why couldn't you go? Were you told it was a live vaccine?

Undisclosedlocation · 26/01/2021 11:07

@wasthataburp

Why couldn't you go? Were you told it was a live vaccine?
None of the vaccines are live
slidingdrawers · 26/01/2021 16:19

OP, I'm not sure the evidence showed that people were infected at a supermarket, rather that when contact traced, a percentage of people had visited a supermarket in the days prior to a positive test. This would apply to a good proportion of the population, positive or not. I would imagine your workplace is your highest risk, dependent on your role.
