Anyone had the vaccine after covid ?

ilikebooksandplants · 25/01/2021 20:07

I had covid in the middle of December and I’ve been offered the vaccine this week due to my job.

I am of course going to have it but I have also read that if you have had covid then you may feel unwell after the vaccine. Anyone had any experience of this and what should I expect?

(I’m in my early thirties and mostly fit and healthy. Covid was a weird experience because I felt awful but out of the main symptoms I only had a very slight loss of taste and smell. I don’t know if this makes any difference!).

My friend had COVID last March and was vaccinated last month (NHS). She felt ill for 24 hours afterwards then back to normal.

Backbee · 25/01/2021 20:14

My friend had covid recently, she had to wait 4 weeks to have the vaccine but had hardly any side effects from it (and she was quite poorly with Covid itself). It makes sense as your immune response is likely to be stronger, but similarly just like the virus itself it's hard to tell on an individual level. If you can I would try and arrange stuff so you can relax the day after if needed, although it probably won't be needed.

Yes lots of my work colleagues have had covid then got the vaccine (work in a hospital). Half were fine with no side effects and half felt lousy so I really don't think I would worry about it. FWIW I don't think I've had covid but felt rotten for 48 hours after having the vaccine. Who knows? I'm sure you'll be fine.

I had Covid in November (positive test) - felt very tired, headache and altered taste. It was very mild. Had Covid vaccine a couple of weeks ago and felt awful the next day - high temperature and cracking headache.

WetJan · 25/01/2021 20:21

I had Covid in November and the first (Pfizer) vaccination just over a week ago. No side effects at all apart from a sore arm for a day.

migmogmash · 25/01/2021 20:27

I had covid in December- had my jab now as NHS staff.

The day after I felt really unwell- high temp, very achy, nausea, headache. And very sore just below injection site. It did ease though and I was back to normal again within 48hrs.

A few of my previously positive colleagues experienced similar, so I think there does seem to be a stronger reaction if you've had covid before.

Make sure you're stocked up on paracetamol is my advice- but hopefully you won't have a reaction, not everyone did Smile

redsquirrelfan · 25/01/2021 20:27

My mum also had covid in November (asymptomatically) and had the Pfizer jab last Wednesday. When I spoke to her on Saturday she was fine.

Mumblechum0 · 25/01/2021 20:36

I had it yesterday (I’m volunteering at a vax centre), after having Covid in March and feel really crappy today, hopefully will be ok tomorrow

CrocodilesCry · 25/01/2021 20:39

My DGM (90) had Covid in November. Had her first vaccine last week, no side effects.
My DM also had hers last week, she had a headache for a couple of days which may or may not have been linked.

When I had my vaccine one of the questions was....’have you had Covid in past 4 weeks?’ .... does that mean you can’t have it until after 4 weeks?? .... so you should be fine

Smashedavacado · 25/01/2021 22:01

@Kitkat151 I have a vaccination booked for Friday. It will be nearly 5 weeks since the test. But not since my very mild symptoms finished - in fact I still have an occasional cough.

I thought the guidance was 4 weeks since the test but if it's since illness I think I may need to wait.
I'm waiting for a call back from my GP surgery tomorrow but any thoughts welcome.

ilovebagpuss · 25/01/2021 22:05

Yes I’ve had it April and October. Had the Oxford developed vaccine on Sat. Apart from a very sore arm and massive bump and a general ache it’s been fine.

Diangled · 25/01/2021 22:28

Myself, DH & DS (17) all had Covid mid December. As DH & DS are CEV they had their vaccine on Friday four weeks since the first symptoms.
DH who is terminally ill was fine & DS was really poorly for 24 hours. He was vomiting, fever & muscle aches. As quickly as the symptoms started they went & he was back to normal.

I also got my vaccine as they had spares & I felt a bit ropey but again fine after 24 hours.

ilikebooksandplants · 30/01/2021 17:38

Update: I had the vaccine and I felt absolutely fine that evening. I started feeling a bit crap (Like my limbs were heavy, headachey and tired) on the Friday at work (although struggled through the rest of the day, so didn’t feel THAT bad) and went to bed for 12 hours and I’ve felt lethargic all day today. Hoping to feel better tomorrow, and feel very happy and thankful to be vaccinated.

I had the jab today- pfizer, I was only just able to have it, it needs to be more than 28 days after a positive test. (The jab was because of work)

Had Covid twice so far. Hoping the jab works like a booster.

So far I am tired and I feel like I have an extremely sore arm.

CureCovid · 30/01/2021 17:50

I had covid in march/april. I had the vaccine recently and felt really horrible (off work horrible, not being able to get out of bed horrible, but not bad enough to require GP or hospital) he night after and for around 15 hours, then felt fine.

fedupandfiredup · 07/02/2021 20:51

How are you feeling OP? Are you ok now? I had the vaccine on 29th and still feel absolutely dreadful.

PolytheneHam · 07/02/2021 20:52

I tested positive for covid on November 9th and had the first vaccine (front line NHS staff) Mid-january. I felt rough for a couple of days after the jab

Riv12345 · 07/02/2021 20:56

These people who say they have had covid twice

Have you actually had 2 positive tests within the last 10 months??

TryingNotToPanicOverCovid · 07/02/2021 20:58

I was wondering whether it was from test or from end of symptoms. I'm group 6 so hoping it won't be long.

Blackcountrychik · 07/02/2021 21:01

I had covid beginning of Jan and the jab yesterday , the Oxford . I’ve been completely fine . No side effects at all and I’m CEV and still struggling a bit with breathing difficulties due to the actual covid but not the vaccine .

Crakeandoryx · 07/02/2021 21:04

DH hasn't had covid. Got Oxford vaccine and felt unwell for 36 hours. My ds has had covid recently, got vaccine and was fine. You just can't tell!

ilikebooksandplants · 07/02/2021 21:55

@fedupandfiredup yes I felt fine after a weekend of sleeping!
