Were you notified that your second jab was cancelled?

I received my first Pfizer vaccine on the 5th Jan. At the time of booking the first vaccine, the appointment for the second vaccine was made for tomorrow and a phone number and other contact details taken at the same time in case of changes.

On the day I arrived for the first vaccine, alongside my colleagues, most people were receiving their 2nd vaccination but the news had been announced about all second doses being postponed to 12 weeks from the 5th January onwards (so that same day). When I asked if this meant my second vaccination and my colleagues’ vaccinations would now be postponed the staff members vaccinating us all replied that they had no idea and that we’d be notified by text or phonecall if there was any change.

Everyone else I know in the community who was vaccinated (GP services NOT the hospital) has had a phonecall cancelling their vaccination but none of my colleagues or I have heard anything. A colleague said his wife (also a nurse at a different hub) didn’t receive a cancellation and when she showed up at the original time they said that they were still vaccinating staff at the three week interval.

I’ve called the hospital vaccine hun phoneline today to ask what to do and can’t get through. The offices are now shut. My appointment time is 8am tomorrow morning and the enquiries office doesn’t open until 9am.

Would you just assume it’s cancelled or show up?

If it’s not too hard to get to, I would show up. My Mum got both of hers despite the new policy.

If you haven't been notified I would still go.

Thank you. It’s hard for one of our colleagues as she was put on duty and our workplace is in a different town from the hospital but I could get there.

I’d be surprised if it’s meant to be still going ahead for you but if you’re nearby I’d chance it

ProudAuntie76 · 25/01/2021 18:08

Yes, I just assumed it would be cancelled but it seems that everyone that’s jab was cancelled was informed beforehand. Either way none of my colleagues nor I have been given a new date nor been told it’s cancelled.

NHS staff here. Announcement on work computer that 2nd appt cancelled, then received a text to cancel, then more recently a new appointment text

Update - We turned up but were told we should have known not to come as it’s been well publicised in the media about the 12 week wait.

In a way I’m relieved as now someone else can have their first dose.

Sorry your time was wasted, they can’t assume people will make plans using the media surely!
As I said, my Mum’s surgery didn’t cancel hers the week after the 12 week announcement, she turned up, they jabbed her.
