Should we be vaccinating A level students so they can take their exams?

In Israel they are vaccinating 16-18 year olds ahead of their exams www.google.com/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-middle-east-55788922. Should we plan to do that too?

No

MrsHamlet · 25/01/2021 20:31

No. The vaccines haven't been tested on or approved for that age group, and the exams have been cancelled.
That horse has bolted

@LimaFoxtrotCharlie

Vaccination should happen in the priority order that has been determined according to vulnerabilities. A level students are unlikely to be admitted to hospital or die of covid. They are therefore not going to be bumped up the queue
Maybe once those who could die of covid have had it, they could start on those whose lives have been most adversely affected.

I think 18-21 year olds should get it before 30-40 somethings get it and totally disagree that they don't need it. Having to isolate every 5 minutes in a hall of residence is not funny and is completely avoidable.

TimeForLunch · 25/01/2021 20:34

But they don't need it do they, being at extremely low risk of becoming ill with Covid? Completely unnecessary.

The Pfizer vaccine is approved for those 16 and over. Not sure why people are saying otherwise

" Having to isolate every 5 minutes in a hall of residence is not funny and is completely avoidable."

But the isolation of this age group was not for their benefit but for the benefit of the vulnerable people they may have passed it on to. Once that vulnerable group are vaccinated the need for anybody to self isolate is reduced whether or not they are vaccinated themselves.

General populatuon vaccinations at the moment are due to start in July.
This may change as we will have a wider range of vaccine choices. Hiwever we need ti remember that ppl need secind doses too.

The drug is given age 16-18 if have CEV. If not you need to wait til your 18 and you get a call up
@bluebluezoo Israel started vaccinating on December 19, after the Pfizer vaccine was approved earlier in December. They are way way ahead of the rest of the world because of their ultra efficient health maintenance organisations: [[https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare]]inn_Israel
They also got sufficient supply to vaccinate the entire population by agreeing to share data with Pfizer and by paying a premium price per dose.

bumbleymummy · 26/01/2021 00:09

Why? They’re not in the at risk groups. They could go in and do their exams if they were allowed to.

CuppaZa · 26/01/2021 00:16

No. Vulnerable quite rightly take priority

MyHeartIsNeverOnTime · 26/01/2021 01:42

What’s the point when those in that age group don’t get sick and the vaccines are unlikely to prevent transmission?
