Self isolation rules confusion

So confused over self isolation rules. Wonder if anyone can help and been in the same situation. My FIL is in our support bubble. He has been called for his vaccination but he has a cough - a cough that he gets most winters - he doesn't feel ill at all but he can only have the vaccination if he has a negative test result. Although my husband sees him most days myself and the children have not seen him since 2nd January. Understandably my DH needs to isolate until he has the results back, but do myself and the children have to isolate also. Test and trace centre said yes (as classed as our family unit) but her GP said only my husband as he has been in direct contact with him.

No I don't think you do if you haven't been in contact with him for such a long time

Support bubbles are treated as one household, so if one person has symptoms the whole bubble must isolate.

@StacySoloman

Support bubbles are treated as one household, so if one person has symptoms the whole bubble must isolate.
Technically, this is correct.

In actuality, only your DH needs to self isolate. If you and the children are able to though, I would isolate.

dementedpixie · 25/01/2021 12:59

Technically that may be correct but only 1 person has had contact with the positive case so its only them that would need to isolate.

OP asked what the rules are, that’s the rules.
Whether you follow them is of course up to you but as I understand it, following an instruction from T&T to isolate is a legal requirement.

Thank you. I am supposed to be working but have explained to them the situation and they actually agree they would prefer me to isolate rather than risk spreading the . So many grey areas where isolation is concerned sure it is because not all the health professionals seem to follow the same rules which confuses the public even more.

Unfortunately, no system is going to be proof against a rogue GP giving advice which tells you to break the law.
