Question about United States

Will people there have to pay to get vaccinated?

And if so won’t that leave those that are vaccinated still more likely to catch it from someone who hadn’t been vaccinated?

Free for moment...
Every state has its own rollout plan, keyworkers prioritised over elderly in some areas, for instance.

Question about United States
stopgap · 24/01/2021 22:12

I’m in the US. There are clinics in my state where people without insurance can go and get vaccinated.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 25/01/2021 00:38

In my state they're talking about billing insurance for the administration of the vaccine, if you have insurance.

If not, the vaccine will be given to you for free, and the cost covered by the government.

As I'm expecting to get my vaccine from my GP, I imagine there will be a charge to my insurance. As it's preventative care, the insurance is not allowed to pass any of the cost on to me.

Figgyboa · 25/01/2021 01:07

No, they are currently free in my state

Kobanidaughters · 25/01/2021 01:17

Free in mine too, as are covid tests

ivykaty44 · 26/01/2021 13:22

thanks for the answers

So the insurance will pay for this in some cases, I hadn't realised they'd take some of the cost of this rather than it all falling to the governemt. I wonder if they will raise their prices for premiums?

The cost of administering an injection is very low, and insurance already covers the cost of administering childhood vaccinations, boosters, flu shots, etc. I doubt this will in any way affect premiums.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 26/01/2021 15:16

@Kobanidaughters

Free in mine too, as are covid tests
Yes - my family's been getting weekly symptomless covid tests at no cost. No one's even asked to see our insurance info so far.

Free testing for antigens and antibodies whenever you want them (no need for symptoms). Free vaccines... Some of my friends of my age (mid 50s) in NY have already been vaccinated, possibly because they are teachers and hospital workers (not a doctor though).
