False negative?!?! So confused?!?!

Me and my husband had a COVID test yesterday as I started showing symptoms Friday night - loss of taste, sore throat, new cough, fatigue and sore joints. My husband has NO symptoms whatsoever but got tested anyway as we live together and he is a key worker. We had the staff perform the tests as we didn’t want to do it wrong and get a false reading. Results came back this morning. Husband is POSITIVE ... I am NEGATIVE!! I’m so confused. Obviously I have to self isolate anyway now as he has tested positive but he literally has no symptoms and I’m here feeling awful with the negative test Confused Has this happened to anyone else? We had both happen with people testing for work. It’s annoying. It sounds like you are positive.

flobbadobba · 24/01/2021 18:00

We're your swabs put in the correct bags?

ChocOrange1 · 24/01/2021 18:02

@flobbadobba

We're your swabs put in the correct bags?
This is what I thought too!

@partyatthepalace thank you for your reply! It’s so strange! We were in disbelief when we saw the results xx

Yes are you sure the right swab got scanned to the right person?

starrynight19 · 24/01/2021 18:03

I would test again in another couple of days.

Riley1989 · 24/01/2021 18:04

@flobbadobba and @ChocOrange1 you know we both said this but I really don’t know how as they scanned both our codes separately, scanned our barcodes on the swab bags separately and we even had two different staff members take our tests at the same time Confused literally baffling xx

Yes, it's happened to someone I know. I'd go with your symptoms rather than a negative result. I hope you'll be okay and make a quick recovery Flowers

SirVixofVixHall · 24/01/2021 18:06

The tests are not infallible, so assume you are positive, perhaps test again ?

Riley1989 · 24/01/2021 18:06

@starrynight19 I was thinking of doing this. Thank you xx

If you got it from him then you are a couple of days behind, so testing again you are likely to get a positive.

Riley1989 · 24/01/2021 18:08

@ReggaePerrin thank you Flowers I’m self isolating anyway as obviously been informed to do so by track and trace because hubby is positive xx

Thank you everyone Flowers

Does anyone know if I have a test again in a couple of days and then I get a positive result will DH have to isolate again with me say for the extra 2 or so days? I’ve tried to look it up but I can’t quite figure it out? xx

No, as he's positive he'll be running on his own timeline for isolation (from the test). Yours will start from your symptoms. But I would get another test....

"Your isolation period includes the day your symptoms started (or the day your test was taken if you do not have symptoms), and the next 10 full days."

Bakeachocolatecake2day · 24/01/2021 18:34

So your 10 days starts Friday Night and husbands from the test on Saturday morning....so he is a day behind you anyway.

starrynight19 · 24/01/2021 18:34

Hope you feel better soon and it’s a mild case.

dementedpixie · 24/01/2021 18:35

If you test again and are positive then you would isolate for 10 days from the test but he wouldn't have his isolation extended

dementedpixie · 24/01/2021 18:37

If you're going to work from original symptoms then its pointless testing again if you're going to end isolation at roughly the same time anyway

Riley1989 · 24/01/2021 19:44

Thank you so much everyone 💕
