What is the expectation for how severe it will be? Is there data/info about this?

Within the first couple of weeks it basically makes no difference.

After that.. from memory, no-one who had had one jab of the AZ vaccine was hospitalised or died. Not sure about Pfizer.

There’s a care home local fo me that’s had all its residents vaccinated since before Christmas. Outbreak in the home now and apparently only minor symptoms in the residents - thankfully.

Mindymomo · 24/01/2021 16:55

@Markies. That really is good news.

Heybeendyingtomeetyou · 24/01/2021 17:11

Is that the one in Hamilton @Markies I wondered how they were doing, good to hear only minor symptoms if it is that one.

Coasterfan · 24/01/2021 17:13

Completely anecdotal, but my granda had the first Oxford vaccination a couple of weeks ago and is currently very poorly with covid and we aren’t sure he’s going to come through it.

No it’s not - further north in Scotland. Don’t really want to say where as I know it hasn’t been made public knowledge as yet so don’t feel it’s right to do so.
Inspirationpending · 24/01/2021 18:17

Would like to know this as I had Pfizer first vaccination 17 days ago
4 members of our family of 7 now covid pos
I’m currently negative but don’t expect to stay that way Sad

Sandyjag · 24/01/2021 20:12

@Coasterfan really sorry to hear that. I hope he pulls through.

Some anecdotal evidence also sounds hopeful. Thank you all for sharing.

I’m amazed there isn’t better info on this. It seems key at this point with the delay in second jabs.

Does anyone have links to info or studies? There must be data from Israel or have they only focused on whether ppl catch it and not the seriousness of their illness?

Sandyjag · 24/01/2021 20:17

Certainly it’s fairly well established that it takes 12 days for the vaccine to take effect, but after that.

That's excellent news. I hope they reported the outbreak to PH England who are collecting data on people who have a positive PCR test or a Covid diagnosis after either the 1st or 2nd vaccination.

The following cases should be reported:

Individuals with a SARS-CoV-2 PCR positive sample with symptom onset date at least 10 days after their first dose of vaccine (this includes any cases who develop symptoms after a second dose of vaccine).

If the case was asymptomatic, test date should be used in place of symptom onset date.

Vaccinated individuals who test positive using a lateral flow device should be confirmed using PCR.

@EmbarrassingAdmissions I’m really pleased to see that PHE are doing this. I mean, it’s a no-brainier that they should, but still.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 25/01/2021 10:23

Good interview with Prof. Adam Finn of JCVI on R4 this morning about why the decision to delay the 2nd dose looks like its working - relevant clip here (as ever, data not seen by anyone outside JCVI or PHE as yet):
