So it looks like we're being prepared for children not to go back until after Easter

I suspected it wouldn't be until then, let's just hope that it doesn't stretch into the summer.

VACCINATE THE SCHOOL STAFF!!!

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 24/01/2021 19:12

Letting the virus tear through schools and communities will be far more harmful than remote learning for a while.

AriataBrown · 24/01/2021 19:12

Personally I don't think telling parents who are probably already anxious and feeling guilty that lockdown will damage their children irrevocably is very helpful

Yep. Exactly.
Everyone whipping each other up into an absolute frenzy
Amazing the number of posters who are working 7 days a week on three hours sleep because of home schooling still seem to have plenty of time to piss about on here.

Oh just let people chat on a chat forum Ariata

If it irritates you this much don’t read it.

Hi cognito!

We couldn’t be further apart. I think children are more important, yes. Than me or my elderly parents. Not so much my kids - all children. Not in some self entitled way but because they are this country’s future.

We don’t know what harms we are doing but they are massive. A few months was one thing - this is far far greater. You seem pleased schools aren’t closed. Smug.

I lie awake worrying about the young people. Climate change, over population and this.

I guess we all have our priorities. But I don’t know any elderly people that agree. They have all openly said they have had their time.

I’m interested to know once schools reopen, who would have objections for school children to wear face masks at all times in school except when eating?

Yes but also from this thread it's difficult not to wonder how many are actually projecting their anxiety on to their DCs and stressing them out? I don't see this level of stressing and anxiety amongst the parent group of my DCs primary irl. And we've been the second worst hit borough in the country. It's off the scale here Confused.
Timeontimeoff · 24/01/2021 19:15

Our area is down to 63 cases per 100,000. I can understand in areas where the infection rate is 600+ per 100,000.... but seriously I would struggle to bump into someone with it.

I have no idea but I wouldn't want to shame them for that either. We are all only human. We make mistakes.

That's brilliant! Where are you (roughly)?

I completely agree.

Children need to be prioritised.

chloworm · 24/01/2021 19:17

@AriataBrown do you think that all women who have strong opinions are hysterical? Please leave this thread if you aren't able to withhold from negatively labelling those who want to discuss an important issue. I don't agree with many opinions on here, but I would never think to be so nasty. People have different opinions. It's life.

MrsHamlet · 24/01/2021 19:17

On another note and sorry if its been covered already but what would make the schools safer? Really not sure unless it's mask wear3in class as well as the corridor. They already do social distancing.
There is no social distancing in my secondary school. With 32 + me in a class it's impossible. And they're a year group bubble so they're not expected to do it anyway.
Rotas. Let us split the year groups in half as we see fit and do week on week off. With 16 in class I can teach them better and more safely then they do consolidation work in their at home week.

Timeontimeoff · 24/01/2021 19:17

I also agree that many parents are so stressed that their children are getting stressed. Other children seem fine and take in their stride. I guess it is like all things some are less stressed by nature and some due to environmental influences - if you have a fearful, over stressed parent it makes for an anxious child.

AriataBrown · 24/01/2021 19:18

You are obviously enjoying it to some degree Ariata

I suppose some get their kicks as you do. Posting ‘rabidly’ attacking posts. Strange but you’re sticking around even if you think it’s such a waste of time.

Odfod. I rant on here but irl, I'm fun fucking mum every day...reassuring my dc it's temporary, keeping them busy, buying endless shit online for them to cheer them up. They're not stupid. It's shit and they know it.
ChimaeraEgg · 24/01/2021 19:21

Do we have to have a go at each other all the time

It is so wearing

And it won't make a difference

Bullshit.

Teens are perfectly possible of stressing themselves out worrying about exams and not knowing what the hell is going on and not having the release valve of mucking about with mates and actually being in lessons, and doing sport and in my dds case, singing in the choir.

Nope

Wildswim · 24/01/2021 19:21

They are going to grow up in a world distinctly different to the one we grew up in with sterile social interaction and curbs on freedom of movement.

What utter nonsense.

whittingtonmum · 24/01/2021 19:24

I can't believe this government is now seriously closing all schools- including primary schools - until Easter. This is absolute madness. Schools would be the last things to close they told us. Remember that?! How are estate agents and garden centres still open but schools closed until Easter?!? Shocking. How are parents supposed to cope? How many of us will get the sack?
