Support bubble and travelling

Hi I have namechanged for this as not feeling resilient for a potential flaming on here but really want to know the answer !

So me and my dp live a fair distance from each other . We both live alone with our children, sharing their care with our respective other parent . He went back home to have his children as usual and is coming back to me tomorrow.

I keep reading about our police stopping people travelling. It seems so unclear on the guidance for support bubbles as we don’t live locally to each other.

Could the police prevent him from travelling to be with his support bubble (me)?

We travelled from one end of the country to the other for essential maintenance on our second home (we've had to let someone in to sort out a serious issue) we were not stopped.

Secondly the motorway was really busy, all the way, we were really shocked at how busy it was, prior to starting out we were worried we might be stopped even though it says you can travel to a second home for essential maintenance. We even had printed off documentation detailing the requirement for a workman to access the house in case we were stopped. But it was as busy a pre lockdown how can the police stop people if there is the much volume of traffic?

How far is far?
Even so if he's your bubble I'd do it.

A long way - 200 miles

We can’t move together because of our kids and their parent / school

He’s done it before but I have just heard of a few people who have been stopped recently so wanted to check he wouldn’t be sent back !

I really don't think you'll be stopped. My DH's business partner's DH drives all over the place he's never been stopped, I drive a lot for work ditto.
From everything I've read if you speed excessively, breakdown and are found to be in clapped out car or go near an obvious tourist destination when there's 6 feet of snow on the ground and then probably try and park illegally then you might be stopped and asked about the purpose of your journey. But we drove past at least four police cars in lay-bys etc on the motorway they weren't obviously stopping anyone and don't forget its very dangerous to stop cars on motorways significantly more life threatening than covid19.
