If you have been in contact with a confirmed case but not contacted by track & trace do you still need to self isolate and if you do can you still have workmen in the home?

Just had a conversation with a friend and wondering who is correct out of the two of us.

If you're self-isolating then you absolutely shouldn't have workmen in your home. It would be irresponsible because it puts them at risk. However, if it's an emergency – ie, your boiler has broken so you have no heating or hot water, you have a gas leak or your ceiling has caved in – then I guess you have no choice. But not for having your walls painted or carpet laid. Stuff like that can surely wait.

Thanks.
I said they shouldn't be in (plastering). Friend said that her & family wouldn't be in same room at same time. I said but you are self isolating (not children) because you were in contact with someone with it but their argument was they don't have any symptoms.
Also they still haven't been contacted by track & trace, do they not contact people if the person with it's contacted them?

If they know they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive its a bit irresponsible to assume they don't need to isolate unless t&t contact them .
As someone who's DH is a tradesman in people's homes I'd be livid if he had been allowed into a property where someone is isolating. Your friend is an arse!

Your friend is an absoute prick.

Do you know who the plasterer is? I'd be inclined to tip them off. They deserve to know their health is being put at risk if your friend doesn't care.

1st rule of Covid innit, the rules apply to everyone except in the view of any individual to whom it is inconvenient. A phenomenon observed in all of my family and friends and ourselves (in fairly minor ways but interesting to observe).

3littlewords I agree I would be livid too!
Not without going round and seeing the van but too late then.
I'll try talking to her but don't think she will listen! I think her view is that she isn't isolating because she's got it and is only isolating because was in contact with someone who had it and she has no symptoms so it's ok.

I read a post on here the other day that said the guidance states you only have to self isolate if you are contacted by test and trace. I assumed if was wrong. Until I read the guidance.

The guidance says you only have to self isolate if someone you live with, someone in your support bubble has a positive test or if you are contacted by T&T.

But I would self isolate if I knew I'd been in contact with a positive case. Given the virulence of this new strain it is the right thing to do.

littlebopeep123 · 23/01/2021 12:56

Notcoolmum so she doesn't need to self isolate then? It's not someone in support bubble or she lives with that is positive it's someone outside of the family.

In that situation I'd ask the worker and if they still want the work, let them come and keep out of their way.

But I use the Tube.
