Symptoms but not top 3

I'm wondering if I should test? For the last few days I've felt terrible, tight chest, nausea, diarrhoea, fatigue, headache, shaking, but because I don't have the top 3 symptoms DH says I shouldn't test (he has ASD and it's 'not in the rules').
By now I would have to go to a test centre as a home test wouldn't be soon enough but I'm not well enough to drive so would need him to agree to take me.
I'm also ECV and shielded but do go out for medical appointments and DH works (in a supposedly 'covid secure' office) so it isn't impossible I could have caught something.
What would mumsnet do?

Test.

Do you self report on the Covid symptom study app (Zoe)? I'm fairly confident they would have asked you to take a (research based) test based on your symptoms. If your DH 'needs convincing' therein lies a solution.

I do report on the zoe app but they haven't asked me to test. I could just pretend they have. Is that ethical?

I tested for similar symptoms and lied on the form. I am glad I did as I was positive and would have potentially have infected others if I had not known.

Ahh, that's interesting. I would still test, yes. Why?

  1. You have a tight chest **
  1. You report a headache and fatigue.

  1. Anecdotally your symptoms are commonly seen in information captured about positive cases.

When you request a test I believe you can say no to the 3 main symptoms and still book a test. I may be wrong.

Ethically, see soundodsilence's comment.

With a tight chest I'd actually call 111 for advice.

Definitely test. Lie if needs be

yearinyearout · 22/01/2021 16:47

Of course you should test. Majority of the people I know who've had covid started with symptoms that aren't in the top three but just ticked yes to get tested. Some had sore throat, some just headache, some snotty nose.

Frangipaniflower · 22/01/2021 17:10

You should definitely go for a test. My husband only had a runny nose and tested positive (I live in a country where testing is readily available). Apart from a bit of a headache he hasn't had any other symptoms and now he's on day 11.

Porcupineintherough · 22/01/2021 17:18

I would test.

I would also check my spam - my invitations to test from the ZoeApp always end up in there.

Newbreadsmell · 22/01/2021 17:20

You can order a home test for free via the NHS website.

Especially with those symptoms.

NorthernChinchilla · 22/01/2021 17:31

Test, definitely. My DH and I got positive results, and he had a fleeting mildly elevated temp, and leg aches. It was only as I was tired and then got the cough that we tested. Worse symptom for me was a sore throat, with a day of sneezing and a runny nose!

Lexilooo · 22/01/2021 17:40

The range of symptoms people are reporting is quite worrying. Lots of people won't be testing because they don't meet the criteria.

NapCracklePop · 22/01/2021 18:08

Ok, I've booked a test for tomorrow, thankyou. I'm shielding and ECV so it would be unideal to have covid but better to know.

I would test with these symptoms.

CaptainMarvelDanvers · 22/01/2021 19:47

I’ve known several people who had none of the main symptoms...They had consistent headaches.

Another person I know only lost their sense of taste and smell - nothing else.
