Re the Shop Alone rule.
It felt safer shopping in-store yesterday.
They should have toughened up earlier but st least they are now!

When I worked nights last month I shopped on the way home, or in the early evening to avoid the queues.

Yes, I always presume that's who we see when we're in the supermarket at quieter times? Op seems unable to back down and acknowledge that there are always exceptions in life. Again, it's the lack of empathy that causes this!
Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 10:27

I am getting quite confused by the OP's posts now @Littlefluffyclouds13. Night shift workers are generally in bed during peak supermarket times. Confused

Nicknamegoeshere · 24/01/2021 10:27

@Sparklingbrook Fair enough. But a lot of the reason there are big queues is because some families are still all wanting to shop together!!

Me too, hence my previous post!!

So what was the night shift worker question about? Confused

Littlefluffyclouds13 · 24/01/2021 10:34

@Sparklingbrook I think it's because op is desperate to 'win' this battle? She's now flinging justifications at this thread that make no sense!
Funny, if a stranger on here, told me she was living away from her dh due to covid and working full time while her dd was desperately unwell, my response would be kind and supportive words!
Aren't people weird?

lagerandblack · 24/01/2021 10:35

Nothing has gone back to the ridiculous rules of the first lockdown here thankfully. Tescos were the worst ere for rules by far, first and foremost the mental one way system which was just an excuse for staff to have a go at customers.
I will not be sanitising my hands on arrival at a store and I will walk round in the order of my shopping list.
I take sensible precautions and will continue to do so but I am not subscribing to the nonsense I read about on here.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 10:38

I still don't really understand going to a big supermarket to just collect a prescription, but presumably it's the only pharmacy for miles around.

I am going to the shops later about 3pm so will be looking out for all this rule breaking with interest.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 10:39

What's your thinking behind that one?

Nicknamegoeshere · 24/01/2021 10:43

@lagerandblack Will you be shopping alone?!! Grin

What on Earth are your parents doing ? There are services offered throughout all the councils in the country, not to mention numerous charities who will shop for the elderly. (If family are unwilling or unable)

Not only should they not be doing it as a couple .. but elderly people travelling to a supermarket on public transport and back is just about ticking EVERY risk factor for adding to a NHS already in its knees.

Please ask them to stop and arrange for someone less vulnerable to collect their shopping for them.

It seems the poster was too polite in their response to you, I would have told you to FO. Decreasing mobility in the old population is becoming a real issue, the risks posed by that once a week trip to the supermarket have to be weighed against the risk of not going out therefore not mobilising. As for "please ask them to stop." How about No? They are adults and more than capable of making their own minds up.

Ventured into Tesco for the first time in a long time and pleased to see that although the store was very busy, it had a traffic light system over the door, there was no queuing to get in and people were being sensible and all that awful yellow and black tape was gone.

Come to think of it, it was actually the first pleasurable shopping experience I’ve had since the non essential shops were made to close and our shopping centre in its wisdom , turned off the heat.

Dowser · 24/01/2021 11:10

Oh and as we are kick in the pants off elderly , we will be going shopping as long as we are able..and crime of crimes
We will be shopping together.

Sparklingbrook · 24/01/2021 11:11

I like the traffic lights but people not shopping alone presumably just rush in as one? How does that work?

Our daughter told us an irate man was trying to force the door open at Aldi, against the red light. Very cross, walked past her and the 2 others waiting, banged on the door then stuck his fingers into the gap in the rubber and pulled.
She doesn’t know what the outcome was, had her baby in the sling and thought it could get nasty so left, walked around the block and all was quiet when she returned.

Every time you look at a non-essential item, an angel loses their wings.:(

Today we have Covid restrictions plus inches of snow. Presumably all the families will shun a supermarket excursion to go sledging?
