Will I get paid? TA positive for Covid

Reception TA here tested positive for Covid after obvious symptoms. Feel quite unwell, but manageable. I know I did the right by getting tested. It never crossed my mind until now... but will I get sick pay only?
I got Covid from work, or from my children who are also attending primary school due to me being at work. I’m simply not going anywhere else, food always delivered home. Scared of losing my pay. Have a bit of family savings so didn’t lose sleep before, but I also never had to isolate before.

I know I have to ask my school but the day of a positive test was quite hectic both for me and for the school and it didn’t cross my mind to ask.

You'll get whatever your contractual sick pay is. I don't work in education, so I'm afraid I have no idea is school staff only get SSP or enhanced sick pay. Your contract will contain info re: sick pay entitlement.

MrsWombat · 22/01/2021 07:01

You would in my school, and as far as I know in most schools. (It would not do to have staff come in to work when they are positive because they are worried about not getting paid)

Keep evidence of the positive test and let them know ASAP as your HR/SLT will have a million forms that they need to fill out. Hope you recover quickly. Flowers

Depends on your school. Mine (independent primary) has until recently had a shitty system where teachers get 6 weeks full sick pay plus any amount of compassionate leave, but support staff (I'm a low paid school sec) are SSP only and unpaid compassionate leave.
As a result of Covid, we would now be paid 1 week sick pay a year but anything more is SSP only.

Maybe I'm feeling a bit cross as I sure seemed to be treated equally yesterday when they begged me to stay super late to finish the education resource packs for parents - no money in the pot to pay O/T and no thanks were forthcoming either! Hmm.

Really sorry you're poorly, hope everything will be ok for you and your school treats you well.

Thanks @MrsWombat
I have informed them immediately.
Will be heartbroken if I don’t get paid. I never had to take a day off before at this place of work. Luckily I woke up feeling much better this morning. If it wasn’t Covid, I’d be back to work much sooner.

Just my personal experience from friends, you need to ask your school as they aren't all the same.

Peculiartimes · 22/01/2021 09:01

@Eaumyword
That’s terrible! I also didn’t hesitate to do unpaid O/T. I hope I’ll be treated equally good.

I was a TA in SEN and our contract stated only SSP in the first 4 months of employment. After that 1 month full pay 1 month half pay for every year worked, up to 6 months full/6 months half.

Having friends who work in schools it seems similar, so I'd think you'd be covered unless you're really new

Eaumyword · 22/01/2021 09:08

I hope you do get treated well. In my view, the TA's are the true frontline heroes of a school for the not great salary Flowers

If you are well enough to work, but can't due to the self isolating period, it may be worth asking if there is work you can do from home - checking in with vulnerable children for example.

pinkpip100 · 22/01/2021 09:29

I'm a TA in a nursery school, we get SSP only (and nothing at all if we are off because one of our children is sick or has to isolate).

Hwory · 22/01/2021 09:44

You may be entitled to the £500 payment if you lose money from work.

@user1495884620
Good point!
Will do that.

We've been told it's the usual, a week on full pay then SSP. They want proof of a positive test as well!

thenewduchessofhastings · 22/01/2021 11:14

There's a £500 one off payment you can claim if you have financial hardship through missing work due to covid
