Was lockdown indefinite before?

Forgive my addled brain but it feels we've drifted into a semi permanent state of lockdown. Now Christmas is over and the seemingly essential mixing that it brought, it now feels we will be in lockdown until such times as the pandemic is pretty much done with

Have I lost the pandemic plot on feeling this?

1st lockdown was until figures improved and it is the same this time.

the80sweregreat · 21/01/2021 23:36

I feel the same op.
I know it's needed and the reasons for it , but it also feels different this time around.
I support what is happening , but I can understand why people are feeling uneasy too.

I agree

Strangely a letter I got from the Govt about being CEV etc said to follow xyz rules until 21st February and potentially after then. I thought I'd dreamt it but dug it out to check. I'm not saying it means anything but why that date? Haven't heard it anywhere else

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 21/01/2021 23:42

@Davros that would be the day the schools would usually go back after half term, so assuming they originally planned for lockdown to last until then, though seems likely it will extend beyond that

the80sweregreat · 21/01/2021 23:45

The messaging by the government for lockdown 3 is completely different to the other two lockdowns.
I'm amazed how many people are complying with it to be honest. I've even forgotten what my old life was like sometimes.

AnneLovesGilbert · 21/01/2021 23:46

I know completely what you mean. In a way it’s better because I’ve stopped bothering to make any plans at all, apart from trying to make lockdown birthdays as nice as they can be, whereas last time we kept thinking it wouldn’t be long and then feeling gutted when things couldn’t go ahead. But it’s not a great way to live either.

Hope you’re okay.

The good thing this time is that there's a good deal of criticism in popular discussion. Last time it was accepted almost without discussion.

Forgive if that comes across to minimise the impact corona, which isn't the intent. But it doesn't work for me if the virus is managed — and. not very well — at cost of my kids' education, and mine and my family's mental and physical wellbeing.

So I hope this time there's enough opposition — both from Labour and those inside Borris's own party —to keep things a bit more in check.

I honestly feel like I’ve ‘missed’ something - we went from various tiers in December, following a relatively short national lockdown through November to this - what now feels as ‘accepted’ that we will be fully lockdown until Easter at least...

And we can’t do anything about it. Even the right to protest has been removed.

DareIask · 21/01/2021 23:51

Given the horrific state the nhs is in I don't feel any choice but to comply. I am retired from the nhs so maybe empathise more easily.

However I need a clearer exit plan.

Yes. Agreed. I can't help but think Christmas had too much influence

ineedaholidaynow · 21/01/2021 23:55

Surely people can’t watch what is happening in our hospitals and think we should be protesting about being in lockdown

DareIask · 21/01/2021 23:59

Not at all. Lockdown is very much needed imo. It just feels too little too late is all. Imo it should never have been lifted for Christmas.

But now it seems to have no visible end point.

I can understand and support the reasons for lockdown AND be concerned that this now seems indefinite.

RemarkableLemur · 22/01/2021 00:28

It's not indefinite. It just feels that way because we're all sick of it, and also it's a terrible time of year with dark days and bad weather.

Jan and Feb are always shite. This year they're shite x1000000.

NHS is always overwhelmed in winter. But winter will end and when numbers drop shops and restaurants will open again, and restrictions will gradually lift. We'll have lovely sunny days and blue skies and be planning BBQs.

Next winter might be a bit rubbish again, depending on how we're doing with the vaccine, but hopefully not.

TiredAndBonkers · 22/01/2021 00:31

In the first lockdown they gave a date for review. Three weeks' away. Then added another three weeks... And so on.

The not knowing makes it so much harder.

BashfulClam · 22/01/2021 00:47

We’re only in lockdown 2 in Scotland after sticking us all into tiers failed! Every three weeks we get an update, last one was this week and we were Tod ‘ah well it’s still not great so no changes in fact we’re going to make ridiculous rules about getting a take away via a hatch...’

BashfulClam · 22/01/2021 00:47

Or was it last week, I’ve lost track

This
DdraigGoch · 22/01/2021 00:54

It's because the weather in January is do miserable compared with the lovely and sunny lockdown 1. It feels worse when you're stuck indoors rather than being out in the garden.

Mintjulia · 22/01/2021 00:56

I think it's because lockdown had a significant impact quite quickly before. This new version is so virulent, it means we'll have to wait to be vaccinated. I'm hoping for April.

I'm still optimistic enough to plan a birthday party for mid June.Smile
