Would you take your CV child for a dental check up?

Our dentist rang today to say that they are now rescheduling children's dental check ups that were cancelled in the first lockdown. My dc had appointments in April 2020 that were cancelled so they haven't seen the dentist since October 2019. My dc aged 7 is CV so I'm nervous about taking him there but he has reflux and the dentist is meant to be monitoring his teeth for signs of damage so his meds can be adjusted as necessary. Also he was meant to see the orthodontist in September 2020 which has had to be postponed due to covid. So I am thinking he ought to be seen by a dentist sooner rather than later. I'm worried about him getting covid though. I also have a 9 year old who is CV and a 6 year old who is a super spreader due to autism and pica.

Yes, definitely. I’ve had dental work done recently and they’re taking precautions very, very seriously. Dentists have worked really hard to make it safe. If they were worried, they’d have cancelled the appointment.

In going to say yes op because it should be a quick visit and it's imperative he is seen.
However our dentists didn't have a window open, dentists only had surgeon paper mask and basic visor...

Thankyou. I might give them a ring, explain ds is CV and ask what safety measures they have in place.

Definitely give them a call. I'm booked in for February and I'm ECV and happy to go after I spoke to them. Will be the only one in the surgery as I booked the first appointment

I have cancelled my own orthodontist apmts due to DC being CV. I was going to appointments when numbers weren't so high but I'm not comfortable with going now despite the safety measures. We are completely isolating though so I guess if you are going out to work or to the shops then you may not feel it's a big difference.

Hopefully they can advise on the risks of leaving it a bit longer though. They should have good safety measures in place like checking temp and wearing masks but of course there would still be a risk. Just depends how urgent it is I guess. It's so difficult to know what to do for the best sometimes. I hope you feel OK whichever decision you make.

Getting the first appointment of the day is a good idea as the PP said. It's a case of doing what you feel most comfortable doing and then trying not to worry about whichever choice you make.

Please take him.
I'm CV, been to the dentist 3 times since October. It's fine. They are taking it very seriously. Smile

I think you should take your child but phone up to ask what precautions are in place and book the first appointment of the day if possible.

I think because of the reflux issue it's important that he does have a check up.

This is ok for a non aerosol procedure.
Arrierttyclock · 20/01/2021 23:18

@LickEmbysmiling that is fine for a check up. If you had a procedure done it would be level 3 PPE- gown/FFP3 etc

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 20/01/2021 23:35

I’m not CV so this is possibly not useful, but I was at the dentist to get fitted for a new nightguard recently - it is honestly the safest place I have been since March! I’m actually going for a checkup and scale and polish on Friday and 100% confident they have excellent safety procedures in place. (Rooms left “fallow” between patients to air, one way systems, hugely reduced patient numbers, PPE.)

Our dentist still hasn’t rescheduled cancelled appointments from the first lockdown. I’ll take my kids as soon as they do. Mine aren’t CV though.
