Blended working

Once we finish wfh, whenever that may be, we are going to start blended working of part wfh and part in the office. The reality of this is very vague with no guidelines as to how often we will be in the office etc so I was wondering, if your employer has decided this do you have a better plan in place for what it will mean for you?

I work five days a week with a lengthy commute so wfh suits me well. My employer has been lucky not to struggle during the pandemic but is in the process of closing several offices because they won’t be needed in the future. They aren’t making people redundant so presumably those who will now live an unrealistic distance from an office either won’t be expected to travel in at all or else it will be very sporadic.

We’ve been told to pick a pattern that suits - whether that’s wfh 5 days pw, in the office 5 days pw or a blend.

This is indefinite & for all staff. We’ve also been given £250 to kit out our homeworking space too.

Wow thats fab @MaverickDanger.

I think ours is likely to be similar to OP us all wfh for now but likely to be blended working in the future. Whilst DH is still WFH indefinitely its still quite nice WFH but I only work pt so not sure what blended working will look like.

Before Covid we could do up to 3 days a week from home. We have a desk ratio of 5:10 to reduce the estate accordingly. I expect we will go back to this. It worked well.

Before covid, there was a mix. Junior staff could wfh 2 days a month, senior staff 2 days a week.

When all this is over, they are planning 3 days a week wfh for everyone.

3 days wfh, 2 days in office

I’ve been so impressed with how they have responded during the pandemic @Randomrebel - people furloughed if needed for childcare, topping up furlough pay to 100%, flexible/reduced hours for childcare/caring/mental health reasons, pension top ups & bonuses after having a good financial year last year!

Spiratedaway · 20/01/2021 20:34

We will be going back the same but keeping the office

Spiratedaway · 20/01/2021 20:36

We will go back blended too people will work 2-3 days per week from home

We are starting to think through this at our work atm. We are very aware that whilst wfh works for a lot of us ( broadly the older cohort!), we have many more junior colleagues who like to the in the office and it’s recognised they need some support etc which at least some may be better given in person.

There will definitely be flexibility ( I anticipate to be able to wfh 3 days, in 2) but we are trying to think through how to maximise the time people are in the office ( ie do we try and have most people in at least one day? For those mainly wfh what is the office time for primarily etc).

It’s actually trickier then we first thought trying to balance needs/wants.
