What percentage of people will get long Covid?

Does anyone have any idea? Most people I know have recovered, not all I have to say, one person died, one person nearly died, he has long Covid, he’s only 37, one person has a persistent cough but I think that will probably go in a months time. I’m just wondering if there is any data yet?

98% of anyone on Mumsnet..10% in real life ha. Its spread quite rapidly around people I know since November, including myself & I literally don’t know anyone in real life apart from the odd complaint of continued tiredness.

I don’t think they can know yet. There’s a lot to figure out. There’ll be a lot of psychosomatics going on alongside genuine long term lung damage, heart issues etc (which my doctor was telling me is so far very rare in mild, at home cases). Post viral issues such as fatigue & feeling shit are not uncommon & generally nothing to worry about. Just takes time, particularly in serious cases. If you come close to dying from anything, you’ll feel pretty awful for a good few months I imagine!

It's emerging. I'm not sure what % get it is known yet. But they do know that you can get long Covid even without a serious Covid illness. And the median age of those with long Covid is 44 and 90% of them are women. This may be US info but it was shared by 'Friendly Neighbor Epidemiologist' on their Facebook page v recently.

I think it's far too early to be able to say with any kind of certainty. Is there yet even any concensus amongst the medical profession about what that actually means?

I have long covid- chest burning when I do anything anyway strenuous, can't walk fast even without it feeling sore. I know 5 people with long covid, but as I was saying to people here the other day I think that's because people contact you in solidarity and for help. 1 sounds the same as me, 2 extremely tired all the time, 2 feel their chests 'aren't quite right'. All from different areas. Haven't got it checked out yet as our doctor and hospital are overstretched. I'm dreading to think what my lungs etc are like, hoping it'll be okay

@stayathomer funny because I get that burning feeling now and again if I overdo it, much less than before, but still surprises me. Saying that I don't move that fast at the moment ! Both myself and dp suffered quite badly with covid, thought we were heading for long covid (7 weeks in) but over the last 2 weeks we've improved in leaps and bounds... Started taking niacin, vit d, dp also taking quercitin, not sure if that's helped !

The last "reliable" figure I heard is 1 in 20, so 5%. Also bear in mind that long COVID isnt just one thing. Some people have life changing injuries from the virus from which they may never recover, others do seem to be recovering over time (I am in the latter group).

NancyDrew1966 thanks will look them up, started taking vit d and it could be the placebo effect but I feel it's doing something! Hope it continues to ease, I've definitely found over time it's getting better but gutted I've turned so fragile
