Cold symptoms

DH tested positive for Covid at the weekend. He had a slight cough, headache, dizzy spells, was more tired than usual, hot and cold, lost his taste and smell - quite a few of the symptoms they describe. It's been 3 days since his positive result and he says he doesn't feel too bad, I'm not sure if he has it mild or if the worst is yet to come.

Myself and DC are isolating at home with him but trying to keep away from him as much as we can. Today I have what feels like the start of a cold - stuffy nose, slight headache and feeling tired.

When you book a test online it asks you if you have at least 1 of 3 symptoms - those being a temperature, cough and loss of taste/smell. I don't have any of those symptoms, just what I have mentioned above. I'm thinking I should probably book a test in the morning but I'm not sure if I'm just over worrying and should wait a bit longer to see if I develop any of the other symptoms over the next couple of days.

Has anyone else had just these symptoms and still tested positive?

I started with exactly the same symptoms as you describe. Just say you have one of the symptoms to get a test. I lost my sense of smell 3 days after my covid positive result came back.

Coldbrewsandamumbun · 19/01/2021 23:04

My first symptoms were a headache, tired and a runny nose for 3 days. DD had tested positive, so I went for a test the day her results came back. It was also positive.
I didn’t get a cough or fever until day 5 either. Our whole house caught it off my DD(16). Our 6 year old DD had a rash and nothing else. DD(16) is also asthmatic. She just had some muscle aches and full loss of taste and smell. We’re all feeling ok now, just tired. DH and I suffered the most. Day 6-10 were grim 😫

Oh gosh, I hope you are all feeling better now.
I have just booked a test for the morning, after reading some other posts on here it seems others had similar symptoms at the start too

I'm glad you have booked one. Those symptoms on the gov pages are hopelessly out of date. The stark reality is that if they had opened up the criteria to fit the vast array of symptoms my friends mum might still be here. Her grandson with whom she lived 'felt awful but it wasn't covid symptoms' so didn't isolate... his grandmother caught the 'not covid' (which turned out to be covid) and died.

That's awful! I have to say it is all so confusing. I have looked on various websites about symptoms and things and they all say different.

I also had a friend was in contact with someone who tested positive, they were advised by phone they didn't need to isolate unless they started to show symptoms, yet online it said they should isolate. (They decided to isolate and got a test to be on the safe side - it was negative).

The person I contracted coronavirus from ( small office her poor mask wearing and no contact with anyone else) insisted she only had a cold.
Two weeks on her whole family have been infected as have I. I have never felt so ill in my life and have had to isolate away from my own vulnerable family.
Just tick the box and say you have a cough, it makes no odds at this stage. The walk in centre I went to when I became ill was completely empty

sortmylifeoutplease · 20/01/2021 00:22

We have an appallingly narrow range of symptoms to test for which forces people to lie to get a test. This in turn allows them to keep the tiny testing criteria as the stats will show most people have one of these three symptoms!

Incyra · 20/01/2021 12:39

From my experience, a lot of symptoms that I have come across are - dizziness, weakness and gastro problems...

justwinginglife1 · 21/01/2021 16:54

Just an update -

Had the test yesterday morning, got a positive result early hours of this morning.

Still just cold symptoms, headache has gone. No cough or temperature as yet and I can still taste and smell at the moment. Overall not feeling that bad so far 🤞

We're in a similar situation as you OP.

DH tested positive 3 days ago so is on day 4 of Covid. He's a key worker and has been so careful with his mask wearing and distancing but it seems nothing stops this new variant.

He describes it as a head cold right now. He hasn't had a temperature and his cough is very mild but he feels tired and has night sweats. I'm hoping it stays mild.

I've done home tests for me and the children today. I know technically we're not supposed to test unless we have symptoms but to me that seems crazy. We're sharing a house with someone who has Coronavirus and I'd like to know which if us has it.

I have a mild headache. It might be Coronavirus or it might be stress. I guess we'll know more in the next day or two.

It's scary. I don't know what is to come.

I feel so sad that he has caught this with absolutely no fault of his own. Key workers need to vaccinated.

Lindy2 · 21/01/2021 17:09

justwinginglife1 I forgot to say I hope you both recover quickly.

ginandwineandbaileys · 21/01/2021 17:18

Yes, get a test. Are you sure you don't have a slight temperature. Mine started suddenly, I went from slight cold symptoms, going to bed because I was tired and waking up with a fever. I didn't lost sense of taste or smell for 3 to 4 days. It's been a month and I still haven't regained my sense of smell

ginandwineandbaileys · 21/01/2021 17:19

Oops just read the update, glad it's mild

As soon as DH developed symptoms I moved into the spare bedroom and kept away from him as much as possible, seems I was just unlucky. Both DC seem to be fine so far so that's a bonus.

I have heard of people testing positive but partners and children not catching it so it is possible.

Wishing you luck for negative results
