Why is covid making me cold sweat so much?

Sorry if this information is easily found, but I haven't found an answer. We all have covid (positive tests) I am the last of the family to go down with it.

As this is happening to me all day and is hard to ignore, I am becoming obsessed with wanting to know what part of the covid process makes me have cold sweats. What causes this?

I understand sweating when you have a high temp, but I have a low temp.

DC (teens) are on the mend and DD15 had this a bit - the cold sweats.
DS18 didn't have it but he didn't have many symptoms. DD15 had a pile of symptoms (headache, temperature, nausea, dizzy etc) and the cold sweats was one of her symptoms, but it wasn't too bad.

DH had this so badly, he was sweating through PJs, the sheet below him, a waterproof sheet under that, 3 towels under that, and through to the waterproof sheet under that - every night for the best part of a week. Also he was drenching the duvet and 2/3 pillows every night. Luckily I was still on my feet then, and we have a big washing machine and tumble dryer!

Now I am in bed with it, lots of horrible symptoms but that one that is confusing me is having cold sweats all day. DH just did this at night but for me its all day. I am freezing but sweating, my temperature is low. I keep having to have showers as I am drenched and frozen despite heating on full and keeping covered up etc.

I understand the cough, the body aches and dizziness etc, but the cold sweating confuses me.

Be grateful if anyone with an understanding of how bodies work can explain this to me so I can stop obsessing about it.

Thanks

Sounds nasty OP. I don't know why I'm afraid. Have you spoken to your GP about it? Wishing you all a speedy and full recovery.

I had cold sweats can't explain the reason behind them sorry but thought I'd comment anyway so you know it's a common symptom with covid , hope you feel better soon xx

I tend to have awful cold sweats whenever I’m ill. Got them with covid too, but as it’s a common thing for me I didn’t look into it.

I had a low temperature, chills and shivering. Honestly, I felt frozen. It came and went several times.

Mumisnotmyonlyname · 20/01/2021 23:22

My doctor said some people express a temperature that way.

I've been told in the past that it's a stress response - it happens sometimes with infections, shock, serious injury. It's part of your body's fight or flight 'panic button' set of responses.

My husband said he was freezing and was shaking but his temperature was 40.6.

Some reasons and explanations in the link below, but the one which applies to covid is probably the shortness of breath.

Shortness of Breath
Severe shortness of breath can lead to a lack of oxygen in the bloodstream. When the patient's brain begins to crave oxygen, a stress response is triggered, causing cold sweats, among other things.

Look for other signs of shortness of breath in a patient with cold sweats, like fatigue with very little exercise or pursed-lip breathing. If the patient has oxygen, make sure it is on and call an ambulance.
