Vaccine drive WWYD?

I am fortunate enough to have been offered the Pfizer vaccine due to my job.

The vaccine center is a two-hour drive away, each way. DH doesn't want me to drive back afterwards by myself because it might not be safe if I am unwell. I also have an injured foot and am really not sure about the driving myself. He is a worrier, but to be fair the NHS website says that you can drive, "If you feel well enough," and I have no idea if I will or not. The problem is that we have two young children that we wouldn't be able to leave while we go, so we would be four in the car. I am concerned we will be told off for this.

There is a bus but this involves two hours there and back and a three hour wait in the destination and obviously we're not supposed to be doing that and there won't be anything open to do. I know we're allowed to travel for medical reasons but I'm mainly worried about not being able to go for a pee for 7 hours if nothing is open. There is a Tesco that looks a walkable distance but I am sure they wouldn't be pleased if I hung around there too long. I also am recovering from badly torn tendons in my foot and I don't really want to be on foot for three hours to be honest. Rehab has been very slow and a complete nightmare with lots of setbacks.

Wwyd? Go the four of us in the car and risk being told that we shouldn't have all travelled but avoid hanging around and foot problems or go on the bus and just hope it's not raining and there's somewhere to pee and maybe sit down? More to the point, I am a but confused about which one would be more closely adhering to the rules. Neither quite fit.

I am in Wales, which is all in tier 4, if that makes a difference.

as we've been no further than 3 miles for a few weeks, it doesn't feel right. Having written this, it's the one time I'm going to be selfish and let us break/twist restrictions.

I don't understand this. How is it breaking or twisting restrictions? With the way things surely going to be vaccinated is an essential journey.

I had the vaccine today, and had the same question as to whether to drive or not. My centre was only 1 hour away though. I chose to risk it and drive. Personally I were absolutely fine other than a tiny little ache in my arm. Could easily drive etc, no other side effects. My arm is beginning to feel very sore now but it's been around 7 hours post jab. I would drive honestly, if you haven't reacted to things like this in the past then you'll most likely be absolutely I had the vaccine today, and had the same question as to whether to drive or not. They keep you behind for 15 mins to ensure you don't react to the jab, and if you do then they'll be keeping you in until you're better any way. Hope things go okay for you x

Also you're not breaking any rules going for a vaccine appointment. If you have been offered one then it is considered important right more for you to have one, and if they offered you an appointment in that area then of course it is okay.

I'm sure you will be fine. I would drive. I know 400 people who have had the vaccine, (300 through my work) , I myself had it yesterday. And not one of us has had anything other than a tender arm.

Is there advice that people shouldn't drive after having this vaccine? I had no idea!

Nonamesavail · 19/01/2021 20:17

Most people feel fine.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 19/01/2021 20:36

You only need to wait 15 mins to see if you have an immediate 'reaction'. Any side effects will take hours (at a minimum) to start.

If you think you could safely do the journey yourself (because if your foot) if you weren't getting the injection I'd do that.

If not I'd get DH to take you.

But I really wouldn't worry about driving back just because of the vaccine.

Getting a vaccine is classed as an essential journey.
There are no rules/guidelines stating that you cannot drive after having a vaccine.
Honestly folk have been getting vaccines for years. It's not a problem. You would have to be extremely unlucky to have a rare reaction. The vaccines are safe and effective

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 19/01/2021 21:08

The only reason DH will be taking me is because of my needle phobia as I'll be in too much of a state to drive. He also wants to make sure I don't get 'lost'!
