School for kids of key worker parents

Hi all wanted to know what key worker parents are doing regarding drop off and pick up at school

My daughter is 4 at nursery and my husband and I are both key workers but have managed to change our work pattern so that we can share the looking after between us without having to send her I to nursery. At this age I'm not too concerned about her learning as we do loads of playing /learning on my days off.

I wanted to know what key worker parents are doing and how do you go about being there to pick up your kids at 3 ish pm? Have your workplaces given you flexibility? My daughters nursery isn't doing breakfast or afterschool club so I really struggle to understand how key worker parents are actually able to use the opportunity of still sending their kids to school?

Our childminder is still open for keyworker children.

No wrap around as it isn’t financially viable for the company running it unfortunately. It’s a complete pain in the arse tbh.

@Hope4theBestPlan4theWorst

Sorry just re-read the original post!

I'm wondering why the wraparound isn't being facilitated for keyworkers that seems very odd as they are "allowed" to operate.

I asked my school this! The school said they are waiting for government guidelines to be released. (Academy primary).

Ahh thank you for clarifying this. My husband and I unfortunately wouldn't be able to shorten our working days as such so we've been fortunate to just reduce ntire days. It's so nice to hear that workplaces are being so accommodating!

Not sure why some schools are not providing wrap around csre as so many parents rely on it under normal circumstances. Perhaps redu Ed staffing atm?

I drop off , my DH picks up. Both working at home so flexible.

Dp works through his lunch, starts late and ends early on the days I'm at work then works much longer hours on the days I'm at home.
It's not ideal but we usually use grandparents for wrap around care

I don't think the school I work at is officially offering it as take-up is low under usual circumstances (tiny school) but know from a conversation with the head we would sort something out for truly front line staff if needed. Might be worth asking the school.

I'm a senior nurse on a very acute hospital ward. Shifts are normally: 7am-3pm, 1pm-8pm, or 7am-8pm. I had my DD in wraparound care before the pandemic (I'd drop her at breakfast club, head to work, work all day, and then pick her up from after-school club for 6pm). This is bloody rare though, and I'm really really lucky that my ward allows it (possibly helped by the fact that I've worked at the hospital for over 20yrs, and up to the point that I had kids, I was working whatever shifts they threw at me).
The school sadly stopped the after-school club due to covid (and logistics of keeping things safe), but I managed to find another after-school club setting that would pick DD up from school starting this month, so that's been great (and a big relief!).
So, my work has been flexible with me even before the pandemic. But they said that they'd rather have me for those hours than not at all. The problem in my area is that there are no settings that provide childcare before 7am. Once the kids are older, I'll go back to working a normal shift pattern.

I work part time in a keyworker job and do my work 9-3 five days a week then pick up the kids (dh takes them)

I am late to work every day, but fortunately my boss and colleagues are understanding.
