...because of the possibility of residual virus fragments causes a false positive, what exactly is the point of asymptomatic test?

ing?

Surely there is going to be a percentage who have had covid within 90 days and either had mild or no symptoms and simply aren't infectious now (and haven't been for a long time). While this percentage wouldn't have been an issue at the beginning of the pandemic, surely there is going to be an ever increasing number of false positives, especially if, as we are being told up to 1 in 3 don't have symptoms and so could have had covid in the last 90 days without knowing about it.

I'm actually confused as to why this isn't talked about, if it wasn't for this site I wouldn't have known

I was just thinking about this too. So if I get a local asymptotic test ( starting soon in area) or because of hospital admission etc and get a positive this potentially could be from any time in the last 90 days ? Rather than actively ‘shedding ‘ now .

Also what happens to people who have tested positive and were ill or a symptomatic and have symptoms again within those 90 days? They can't test again as it could be the old infection, do they just isolate for 10 days?

I've been told by GP to get another test, as possible flare-up of Covid following a positive test on 27.12.20. So this is pretty confusing!
