Liking the bubble?

25 replies

LiJo2015 · 17/01/2021 19:47

I havent left the house in over 2 weeks and actually have no desire to do so. I have a 5 month old and an 11 year old and a husband who is WFH so enough to keep me occupied and company. I also have 2 sausage dogs. I have also taken up crochet. I love my little bubble and think that when its all over i may have a hard time readjusting to life outside the safety, warmth and love of homelife.

Anyone else feel the same?

I felt a bit like this in the first lockdown. Now I'm just sad that I am missing out on time with my 2 month old niece and that my family don't get to spend time with my 17 month old DS.

LiJo2015 · 17/01/2021 20:20

@mynameiscalypso

Having had my daughter in lockdown has been isolating and as made comparable to when i had my son11 years ago i havent done the normal mama and baby groups which were a lifeline when i had my son. But i have found i have adapted. I think when i do emerge ill start getting anxiety from just being out, around so many people.

Have you met your neice in person?

I understand how you feel. At the moment I am happiest at home, in our little 'bubble' like you say, I also haven't left the house in 2 weeks now either.

I am worried about adapting to life when everything opens up again though.

mynameiscalypso · 17/01/2021 20:26

I've seen her from a distance in a pram when we had a socially distanced walk with them but only once. It's not the same though is it? I definitely think you adapt, you're right, but it's just shit. I think I'm just bored of my DH too which is making me grumpy 😂

icanboogieboogiewoogie · 17/01/2021 20:28

I just need to properly stretch my legs. I only go for walks in the local park but would miss them if I couldn't go.

borntohula · 17/01/2021 20:30

No I want to go to the hairdresser's and the gym and the pub

LiJo2015 · 17/01/2021 20:32

@mynameiscalypso

🤣🤣🤣

That must have been so hard to see her from a distance when it would have been ao normal to cuddle and kiss her. Who would have thought it? Everything that is 'the norm' now. Someone picked up a cot earlier from my house... there was this weird too-ing and fro-ing of she knocked, DH took out cot, stepped back, then she came forward, was clearly struggling and DH desperately wanted to help but of course couldnt.

I do wonder how long it will take us to get used to everything again - can you imagine being in a crowded bar and not panicking?!

LiJo2015 · 17/01/2021 20:36

@mynameiscalypso

Like the idea of going out for a nice meal with dh though

I cringe every time I see stuff like this on tv, or non socially distanced things! It'll be so strange.

99victoria · 17/01/2021 21:31

Are you not taking your 2 dogs out for walks? What about your 11 year old - are they going outside without you or have they not been out the house for 2 weeks either?

Once it starts to go back, it will really quickly feel normal again.
Darbs76 · 17/01/2021 21:50

Don’t you walk the dogs? I am quite happy at home and although the kids would rather be in school I’m happy having them at home, and at 12 & 16 I don’t need to home school, thank God as I’m working. I quite like not going out, but I do go out every evening with the dog and weekends (Monday - Friday the dog walker takes him as I’m still happy to use her as find it hard to take a longer lunch break).

Absolutely I can. I can’t wait to be in theatres and restaurants and gigs. I like being on my own too, but I can’t see any reason to panic in a normal situation.
LizFlowers · 17/01/2021 22:04

I very much like being on my own; it's wonderful not to have to see people or go out. I have everything I need delivered. It will be weird when I eventually do re-join the human race :-).

Aspiringmatriarch · 17/01/2021 22:13

I've felt like this at times, but now I'm really missing my parents and things like my son's swimming lessons and him being able to see friends. His best friend recently got a new puppy (not a 'covid' puppy, they also have an older dog), and I thought how over the moon he'd be to go and see friend and dogs, that made me sad. I'm generally quite introverted and happiest at home, but I miss those sorts of things, and the weekends when I'm not working feel very empty and flat atm. Next week I might feel cosy and content again though. I think we all go through phases. It sounds like you're enjoying lots of quiet family time with your new baby, and that's lovely. Try to go out occasionally though or it will feel more and more daunting. In the first lockdown I was so anxious about even going for a walk that I basically turned into a sentient marshmallow Blush.

Katie517 · 17/01/2021 22:23

No I can’t stand it and can’t wait to be able to get back to doing the normal things I love. I have a 5 month old and getting out of the house for walks with a friend and going for a run and getting a coffee is all that’s keeping me going. I have no anxiety about getting back to normal or being in crowds and would happily jump on a crowded plane and fly on holiday tomorrow if I could. I get anxiety about restrictions and being stuck in the house but even before covid I was hardly ever at home and was always busy I am an extrovert and thrive on being around people. I also hate working from home and really hope by the time I finish mat leave in September we are back in the office. I just can’t get on board with people who enjoy spending every second of the day at home. But agree that for a lot of people coming out of their “bubble” is going to be very difficult.

Yes it's starting to feel strange.

We had the total lockdown in March, then bars opened for a short while, but then here (urban north) into tier 3. So the memory of bars being open, and what it was like, is starting to seem so far away now. Blimey Shock

LiJo2015 · 18/01/2021 09:20

@99victoria
