Walking with one other person

Are we meant to stick to purely just one person?

Or is it ok to walk with a different one other person every day/ every other day?

You’re allowed to walk with a different person each time, but keeping to 2m apart

murbblurb · 17/01/2021 18:20

sure it is if you want to chance spreading covid.

otherwise - minimise the people you spend time with and keep AT LEAST 2 metres apart. Imagine Darth Vader lying dead on the ground between you; that's two metres.

same applies in the coffee queue. AT LEAST 2 metres.

TitInATrance · 17/01/2021 18:20

It can be a different person but you need to be 2 metres apart.

RedskyBynight · 17/01/2021 18:25

You are allowed to walk with a different person every day (or even a different person several times a day). However, the more people you mix with, the more chance there is that you will pass on any infection, so it would be sensible to limit the number of people you meet with. Particularly if you are not that good at walking and social distancing.

Ok thank you

agree with the above... what the rule is and what is sensible are two different things

With things being so dire at the moment, I'm not walking with anyone - just chatting to friends on the phone while I walk.

In three weeks or so, NHS will hopefully not be overwhelmed and I'll start walking with one friend at a time again

Muchtoomuchtodo · 17/01/2021 22:27

Depends on where you live.

In Wales you can only walk with someone from your own household.

PurpleDaisies · 17/01/2021 22:30

You are allowed to walk with a different person every day (or even a different person several times a day).

You are only supposed to exercise once a day in England. It can be a different person each day though.

Someone will be along to point out the difference between the law and the guidanceif you start saying things like that Purple.

LOL! But yes, exercising once a day is guidance not law. So you can (and this thread is about what you can do, not what you ought to do) exercise multiple times a day.
Incyra · 18/01/2021 08:16

You are but that would surely he unwise? I would definitely limit the amount of people you walk with, makes sense to walk with the same 1 or 2 people rather than lots of different ones

redsquirrelfan · 18/01/2021 08:32

Yes you can walk with different people. However, consider the rest of your life and the contacts you have. I work from home and went to one shop and the bank last week so I met three different people for exercise.

If I worked in a higher risk environment or had kids in nursery, I probably would meet with fewer people (also all the people I met are at home too as they are variously working from home, on maternity leave and on furlough).

The new variant transmits more easily but the risk outside is still minimal. Just make sure you stay side to side, don't face each other to talk.

redsquirrelfan · 18/01/2021 08:33

The exercising once a day is guidance, but it's very clear measurable guidance unlike the stupid "stay local" wooliness. But on the other hand it's completely unenforceable.
