Test or not?

Apologies I know some people get annoyed with posts like these, myself included but when you are in the difficult position of having to make a decision it’s not easy!! So here’s the scenario: DH is a teacher and a child he was in contact with on Thursday tested positive on Friday. He is now self- isolating but started with a sore throat yesterday. He has a headache today, but is generally ok. If he hadn’t been in contact with this child we wouldn’t batter an eyelid normally. I am also a teacher and due to go to work on Wednesday, mixing with staff and children obviously. Should DH get a test win his symptoms or wait for more symptoms? It makes no doffeeence to him as he is isolating anyway, as are all his colleagues he had contact with on Thursday. The only impact would be on me as I would need to wait for his result and would obv need to isolate if he tests positive. Really not sure what to do for the best x

Test. You really need to be clear what your situation is as you don't want to take it into school.

BrokenCircle · 17/01/2021 17:35

Test. You need to do everything you can to avoid potentially spreading it.

Surely you know that your husband getting a test is for the best. How can the scenario where he's positive but you don't know so are carrying on regardless -and potentially then going to spread it - be for the best? Unless you mean best for you both personally to avoid more hassle and disruption, rather than best on a larger scale?

Yes, definitely test. Just tested my DS without any of the big three symptoms as he’s a bit unwell (and had contact with covid positive person) and my DD is due to attend school next week. Would hate to spread it when it could be avoided.

starrynight19 · 17/01/2021 17:44

Absolutely test. It took me a week to show first symptom from being with a positive case in school. Six of us tested positive within that week.
Hopefully it won’t be positive but you need to know with regards to school.

MissBPotter · 17/01/2021 17:47

A test is free and takes about 30 seconds to perform, hopefully you have testing centres nearby. Doesn’t seem like a hard decision to me! What have you got to lose?

Lifeispassingby · 17/01/2021 17:52

Nothing to lose but he doesn’t actually qualify for a test as he doesn’t have any of the main symptoms? X

I am a primary teacher and three children in my bubble have just tested positive. I ordered a home test and have sent it off today. Just say you have symptoms which he does just not the main three. I told them I was an essential worker and it was all fine. I am now self isolating in my working from home week.

Hopefully it is negative and my sore throat and tiredness is just usual teaching germs!

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 17/01/2021 17:55

Just tick that he has symptoms and get a test. I know so many people with a headache and no cough, fever etc who all had covid (including me) they need to add it to the list! Or just let anyone get a test. I thought they were rolling out tests for anyone with any or no symptoms shortly anyway.

Lifeispassingby · 17/01/2021 17:55

We have a home test we ordered before Xmas but didn’t use as it took so long to arrive. Can we use that or do they expiry dates?

I'm pretty sure they are ok as we were given some at school at the start of this term and we still have some left.

BrokenCircle · 17/01/2021 21:07

Just tick that he has symptoms and book a test! We tested DS when he had no symptoms, after he was sent home from school when a peer tested positive. And ds was positive! A week later, DP and I were both really ill and tested positive too.

Maryann1975 · 17/01/2021 21:21

Get him a test, just to be sure. If he doesn’t and you go in to school on Wednesday and then get symptoms on Thursday, you will be so cross with yourself.

Also, turn it around. If a child in your class did this and came in To your class when they had an unwell sibling, you’d be livid that they had put you at risk (and rightly so you would be cross) so it works both ways.

Smashedavacado · 17/01/2021 21:26

Your actions at this point are crucial.
My DH had a high temperature for one night before xmas. I was due at work the next day with adults with disabilities - many are CEV.
DH didn't want to test but I insisted he did. I didn't go back to work before his positive result came on Christmas Day. I therefore had seen no one else before my own positive came the following week. Including my DM who spent Christmas day on her own as a precaution - for which she will be eternally grateful.
Sorry to go on but I feel very strongly about following the right procedures.
We were by the way very lucky and had it very very mildly. DH really had nothing apart from that initial temperature.

Friolero · 17/01/2021 21:26

I tested positive a few weeks ago and it started with a sore throat and headache. The cough came a few days later. I'd get a test with those symptoms given he's had contact with a positive case.

CrochetToTheMoon · 17/01/2021 21:36

He is symptomatic of something even if its not one of the main three, i’d either tick that he is symptomatic. Also you should isolate now until he tests negative or remain isolated for the 10 days if he chooses not to test

CrochetToTheMoon · 17/01/2021 21:38

Test or not?
ginsparkles · 17/01/2021 21:40

These have now been listed as symptoms for which you should get a test in my council.
