Would you have the vaccine? TTC

The hospital i work at is offering the Pfizer vaccine to all staff.
Last month they said they weren't offering it to women pregnant or TTC within 3 months.
2 weeks ago they changed their advice and said those of us TTC should have it but they haven't produced anything that shows evidence that it's safe. They aren't offering to pregnant women unless high risk.
They are currently leaving 12 weeks between each dose.

My manager is pressuring me to have the vaccine but I'm not sure what to do. I'm 36 and currently TTC, if I get pregnant this will be the last baby I will have, I don't want to put it at risk.

I can't find any evidence online about the safety of the vaccine and impact on fertility. Also if I get the first dose and then get pregnant I won't be able to take the second dose so I won't be fully protected.

WWYD?

No I wouldn't personally. Too many unknown possible risks on fertility or the foetus.

elsaesmeralda · 17/01/2021 16:59

Currently going through ivf and I've decided when it comes to my turn I won't be having it. Just don't want to risk anything !

MrsSugar · 17/01/2021 17:00

I am ttc and I don’t think I will take the vaccine. Like you say first we were advised not to, now I’ve been advised I can have it but if I fall pregnant I shouldn’t get the 2nd dose 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve heard ppl say there’s no data to say it’s dangerous but that’s mainly because there is very little data. It’s very hard trying to know what’s best. I am nhs staff and my manager Is aware why I’m not having it but no one else is n I’m sick of constantly being questioned whether I’m having it or not !

MajesticWhine · 17/01/2021 17:01

I am very pro vaccine, but in your situation it is questionable if it is worth the risk of unknown harmful effects (albeit very small risk) and you shouldn't be pressured by your manager.

MrsSugar · 17/01/2021 17:01
  • I should confirm I am not frontline and do not have patient contact

Is it ttc 3 months after first dose or second? Personally I'd take the vaccine in your position, unless it meant delaying by 6 months or more. How long did it take you to conceive your dc?

RosieLemonade · 17/01/2021 17:06

I am in the same situation. I'm a teacher so no time frame given yet. I am only 30 so hopefully have plenty of time but the obviously the age gap between DD and a new baby will keep getting bigger. It is ready 4 years!

BestWatcherInTheUnit · 17/01/2021 17:06

I would delay TTC for a few months and get the vaccine

fairgame84 · 17/01/2021 17:06

That's my worry, the unknown. If I was younger I might feel differently but in terms of fertility I'm at the older end and we desperately want a baby.

3 months after 2nd dose. It took 5 months to conceive DS and that was 16 years ago.

In a similar predicament. Dont have any kids would like them.and there is a lot of people saying it can lead to infertility? Unsure if.this is fake news.

If.you are actively trying I wouldn't have it I don't think

feliznavidad2 · 17/01/2021 17:12

I've recently had the Oxford vaccine and we are v much looking to TTC no2 soon. The recent guidance change reassured me and having had Covid once, I can assure you I wouldn't want it again.

There is never data on the risk to pregnant women or those TTC when vaccines begin being used...
But the fact that the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists have shared the updated guidance which advises 'women do not need to avoid pregnancy after vaccination' is enough for me.

EarlGreywithLemon · 17/01/2021 17:12

I will take it. We are planking to to TTC this year and I’m group 6 on the priority list. In fact, I am planning to wait until I’ve had the first dose to start TTC, as I don’t want to be pregnant without at least some protection from Covid . I’m much more concerned about the potential impact of COVID on a pregnancy than I am about any side effects from the vaccine. I’m hoping that by the time it comes round to the second dose, they’ll relax the advice even further re giving it to pregnant women.
In your case however, my understanding was that they would give it to pregnant healthcare workers, if wanted, as you would be considered high risk. I might be wrong though.

Yes, infertility is fake news.

Honestly I’m the most pro vaccine person I know but I wouldn’t. I think most of us who aren’t at risk have a civic responsibility to get the jab but if I were planning another baby soon I wouldn’t, just to be sure. I can’t imagine there are too many women who are actively TTC in 2021 to the extent it would have a wider impact. I say that as someone who had a baby in August, planning to start TTC in January 2023 and will be having the vaccine this year if offered. Won’t take it post June 2022.
