I'm feeling extremely down today - crying, the works - just feel so miserable about the whole scenario. Has anyone got any good news to give us all to make us feel better?

My best friends ECV mum had her vaccine the other day. It’s something that’s all been on our minds ever since the start of Covid, so we are all thrilled that she’s made it this far and has now been vaccinated!

My 86yo FIL got Pfizer jab today. He's so grumpy he makes Victor Meldrew seem like a ray of sunshine. We reckon he's never bothered with a flu jab & he's very skeptical about Foreign vaccines in principle.

but he did it. Thank goodness. If he was convinced, many of the reluctant will be.

Thank you whirlwind Flowers

Cases are dropping slowly but they're headed in the right direction, hospital admissions and deaths will follow in a couple of weeks.

We've vaccinated 4million ish people with more vaccine centres opening all the time so we'll see more vaccines each week.

Things are headed in the right direction, it won't be quick but it will happen! Hang in there.

Yes the vaccine programme is going really well. Over 4 million vaccine shots given in the UK, which is great going for the time period and can only increase per day because the infrastructure is in place and so will be more organised and efficient as the days go by“

I hope that “experts” are never again sneered at.

I had my first jab today at a big vaccine centre in a football stadium. Really efficient with loads of friendly volunteer stewards. I'm NHS staff, and lots of us have had it. Numbers of cases are starting to drop.
It feels horrible being in lockdown in January when the weather is crap and everyone is bored of the same old local walks, and the news is full of deaths, but there is hope around the corner.

Over half of over 80s have been vaccinated, according to the BBC. That in itself will have a huge impact on death rates in 3 or 4 weeks.

IggyAce · 17/01/2021 21:46

My GF has received both vaccinations.

OP, mid January is just about the crappiest time of year even without a pandemic! Christmas is a fading memory, the credit card bills arrive, it’s cold and dark and Spring seems miles away.
But compare this January with last. Then we were watching the situation in Wuhan and dreading what was coming. Now we have three effective vaccines, the infection rate is dropping, and we have an army of volunteers speeding the rollout at hubs all over the country. There is every reason to hope we will win this battle and have a return to normal life by later this year. Elderly people are already booking holidays for late summer, on the assumption that they will have had their two doses by then. R
Chin up - we are on the home straight.
