So.....

Last year we deferred our summer holiday to grab canaria.... currently it’s booked for around 18th May

What are your opinions on whether this will go ahead or should I make alternative plans for a staycation?

@FranklyTruly

The experts are very clear that lockdown cannot be released until everyone has been vaccinated. That will not be this year- so lockdown will be in place throughout 2021.

We also know that vaccination does not prevent transmission. So there will be restrictions in place indefinitely in order to keep people safe and prevent Long COVID.

We've never tried to prevent post viral syndromes before, why do we need to stay locked down and start now?

@WrongKindOfFace

Yeah but it’s Raab. I wouldn’t trust him to find his own arse with both hands.
😂😂🤣

I'm wondering how all the vulnerable people can be vaccinated by mid Feb if they can't get appointments. My 94 yo MiL has just got her letter telling her to ring for an appointment. My very vulnerable DH has received nothing.

I'm considered a key worker and there's nothing at all available for me. Then again the only place I really need to get to is Canada to visit my mom. But I can't as I don't believe I'm allowed in the country due to the current guidelines in place even if I could afford to be there the minimum 3 weeks required.

FuzzyPuffling · 17/01/2021 16:27

According to Zoe app, cases are still rocketing upwards in Cornwall today and some places are at the same level as London.

Also we seem to have very few vaccines, and no access to large hubs, or even Superdrug. None of the over 80s in my village have been vaccinated yet. None. The local PCN hasn't updated their website since 11th December.

Don't come here!

They aren't vaccinating all key workers yet, only front line NHS/care home workers who are most at risk. Likewise, they aren't vaccinating ECV yet.

It sounds as if the Tier system will work the same as last time based on what's going on in each county.

Incyra · 17/01/2021 16:48

I've been looking at UK holidays as we didn't go anywhere last year. Really cheap in Aug. Found a caravan for 7 nights in Scotland for 305.00!!

I think the key is they will be offered a vaccination slot not necessarily actually vaccinated. Although not a criticism as they appear to be doing a good job with things ramping up all the time.

user7778 · 17/01/2021 16:59

Given that the Govt have come down hard on travel recently because of new variants, I'd be surprised if travel is particularly easy this year (even out if lockdown)

Lovemusic33 · 17/01/2021 17:00

I wouldn’t get your hopes up, I think May is still a bit iffy even if the vaccinations go to plan as they are saying ‘June until all groups are vaccinated’ but you need to take into consideration the things that could go wrong and we don’t really know how long people with have immunity for.

I think people should go ahead and book holidays as long as there’s guarantee that you will get your money back if you have to cancel. We will be holidaying in the uk as we did last summer and hopefully might go abroad in 2022.

sundowners · 17/01/2021 17:39

We’re booking Spain for August. Hoping all adults in our group will have been vaccinated by then.
Made sure we can cancel for free up to 28 days before.

RoseMartha · 17/01/2021 21:15

I think that if most people are holidaying in the uk again this year. Which seems likely given the circumstances. It will be another year we dont go anywhere because the places I can afford will be snapped up quick. (Ie the cheap ones). Unless dc and I would be permitted by then dependant on tiers and rules to go away with friends to halve the cost.

Ravenclawlass · 17/01/2021 21:39

I have a holiday to Mexico end of July that I booked last August when I thought things were getting back to normal with eat out schemes ect.

Silly me.

Now I'm unsure if long haul will be accepted this year, especially to countries like Mexico where they're failing to control the virus....

NoseinBook3 · 17/01/2021 23:26

We are going to book a holiday for July but it’s got Covid cover so we can amend it or get a refund if needed

Elephant4 · 17/01/2021 23:29

Government told us to book holidays last summer. We did and then at the last minute quarantining was brought in.

We went anyway as we couldn't get a refund (France had 20 per 100,000 at the time) - but were made to feel so guilty about going.

I wouldn't trust anything this bloody government tells us is going to happen or be allowed. They just want us to spend our money.

What a load of twaddle
