Clarity needed on who the UK Gov is planning on vaccinating

Just that, really.

I was under the impression that only people over 50 would be vaccinated, and vulnerable groups. However I've read several threads on here where people make reference to all adults in the UK being vaccinated by the end of this year. Can someone please clarify this for me? I'm not referring to availability of vaccines etc. by the way - I'm just trying to get clarity on whether or not the UK Gov are planning to vaccinate all over 18s.

Under 50s and non-vulnerable will get their vaccine in phase 2.

I am not in England, but here is the plan where I am. I would assume England would be the same.

Great to know, thank you. Do you have a link to that info anywhere? Searched but cannot find it

Pretty sure jt was The Guardian that reported all over 18s will be offered it by autumn.

Ultimately they'll want to vaccinate all adults, the limiting factor will be either the amount of vaccine doses or the staff to deliver them.

scaevola · 16/01/2021 13:02

The JCVI has been clear all along that all adults will be vaccinated, and recent government statements have reiterated that.

Phase 1 covers all the first priority groups (care/NHS staff, elderly by age down to the over 50s, CEV and CV age 16+)

Phase 2 priorities have not yet been announced, but it is likely that it will be headed by certain occupations.

I wonder if they will split the 18 to 49 year olds in priority categories. I'm 48 and even though i have no health issues feel more at risk than the average 18 year old.

Em777 · 16/01/2021 13:07

The age cutoff for priority really should have been 45, when you look at the data, that’s when risk tends to take off. (I’m younger than this, so not posting out of self-interest! 🙂)

I would imagine so, even just for consistency across areas. Either by occupation or by age brackets.
FunnyItWorkedLastTime · 16/01/2021 13:14

I think it’s entirely reasonable for the JCVI to see how phase 1 is panning out before deciding priorities for phase 2. It’s not impossible that there might very rare but serious side effects of one or more of the vaccines which would affect the risk benefit calculation for young healthy adults, and of course we still don’t know how the vaccine affects transmission.

Matt Hancock has said extremely clearly in several interviews that all UK adults will be offered a vaccine.

LouLou198 · 16/01/2021 13:24

I heard Matt Hancock say this week all adults will be offered a vaccine before the autumn. Think it was maybe on the Andrew Marr Show?
