Thank goodness. At last they’ve seen sense.

Yes. About 10 months too late!

Wakemeuuuup · 15/01/2021 17:34

Good

middleager · 15/01/2021 17:36

About effin time.

reefedsail · 15/01/2021 17:37

What does this actually mean? I have read BBC website, but it says that the corridors are closed then goes on to talk about travellers needing negative tests, which doesn't sound very closed?

ChocOrange1 · 15/01/2021 17:38

Oh good. I always wondered why they didn't do this in March!

FOMOcat · 15/01/2021 17:39

I understand it just to mean those places where quarantine was not required.

So travel still allowed but travellers must quarantine from everywhere now

Ignoring the fact that no-one is enforcing this - not even taking people's contact details on arrival at airports, police not checking etc.

DayBath · 15/01/2021 17:42

Should put people off their hols now if they have to quarantine afterwards.

Non essential flights should be grounded IMO though.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/01/2021 17:44

Will it impact travel insurance too?

Iamclearlyamug · 15/01/2021 17:44

@FOMOcat all travellers have to fill in a passenger locator form before they arrive, that’s been the case for a long while now - it’s done online directly on gov.uk, and there are big fines if you refuse. And they do check, my friend had a phone call every day, and a house check from a PCSO on about day 3. Apparently they track your phone signal to see if you’re out of the house. I mean you could leave your phone at home I suppose, but most people wouldn’t go out without it I imagine

ineedaholidaynow · 15/01/2021 17:44

Will there be a mass rush to get home this weekend?

reefedsail · 15/01/2021 17:45

Thank you @FOMOcat that makes sense now.

lljkk · 15/01/2021 17:45

I imagine will only reduce international arrivals by ... 25%?

dudsville · 15/01/2021 17:45

Oh good, oh what a relief, oh.... wait that horse has bolted buddy. All I can muster is to acknowledge it's happening.

Smiledwiththerisingsun · 15/01/2021 17:45

How on EARTH were they not requiring negative tests & quarantining before now?!?! 🙈

lockeddownandcrazy · 15/01/2021 17:46

Should have closed off all people into the UK yonks ago. We are an island, we should have used this to protect ourselves, then we might be out of it by now.

Lookingforwardto2021 · 15/01/2021 17:47

“Apparently they track your phone signal to see if you’re out of the house. I mean you could leave your phone at home I suppose, but most people wouldn’t go out without it I imagine”

But what if you have location service disabled on your phone?

Glad to hear it is being enforced to some extent. People on news being interviewed on arrival at airport this morning though said no-one collected their contact forms and no-one checked their Covid-19 test results. They were free to go without anyone knowing where they were headed. So no-one can check their quarantine either then.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/01/2021 17:55

Good. I'll be the first on the plane when I can, but now is not the right time.

FOMOcat · 15/01/2021 17:55

The phone tracking thing must be an urban myth. Data protection regulations means you would have to consent to that. Plus not everyone has the correct phone, settings etc, what if your battery runs out or you turn your phone off? or you turn the location off as a pp says?

notalwaysalondoner · 15/01/2021 17:57

Not sure this will change anything as barely any countries were left on that list anyway for months. Agree with others they should ground flights as I know several people who’ve taken flights against the rules - only way to stop it is to stop the option. But think we should have done this in March in hindsight... New Zealand style... at the time I would have been completely against it but now it seems a good idea... we are an island after all.

reformedcharacters · 15/01/2021 18:00

Cue all the sob stories in the media.

CottonSock · 15/01/2021 18:07

Does anyone really want to travel here from abroad???

AttilaTheMeerkat · 15/01/2021 18:11

Flights except cargo ones should have ceased long before now, it’s all far too little and far too late.

The three Border force officers who recently met a flight I was on only gave a cursory glance to phones held aloft by us incoming passengers at the airlines brusque sounding instruction.

All the officers wanted to see was evidence of a QR code, it could have been anything. If you were in a family group they only wanted to see one QR code and not any other, they also told us to “keep moving”.

Checking 300 or so passengers individually would also take hours and they do not have the manpower nor time.

kingat · 15/01/2021 18:12

Doesnt make any difference imo.
How many countries were actually on the "safe" list?
Having to have test is a big change, but then it takes few days to inubate, so also not really.
Other countries just stop flights coming in, thats what closing border is.
This doesnt make much difference.

No they don't!
