Self isolating - do I need to retest?

Sorry for my thousand of Corona related questions..

DD17 is positive. She needs to isolate til Weds.

Me and DD7 both negative so need to isolate for the same period.

DD7's dad is suggesting we re test as while we are living with DD17 we could catch it at any point. Was advised by email with our results not to retest unless we get symptoms. I do see his point though. Does it become less contagious the longer she has it? What is the likelihood of us catching it now?

You're supposed to retest a week after your negative test, did they not say that to you? In Ireland so maybe it's different here

bananaramadramas · 15/01/2021 11:45

@stayathomer No. Only says to retest if you start getting symptoms. Testing again does make sense to me though.

Oh ok may, when I had it that was the way, it makes sense to me too, hopefully someone else has answers for you. Hope your dd is ok

No guidance is not to test while isolating here without symptoms. Although I can see why people are, with this new variant a lot of people aren’t getting symptoms.
It’s up to you but don’t feel pressured by DD’s dad.

Don’t retest if you are all well at the end of isolation period as further tests within 90 days can still be positive although you would not be infectious. You would then be required to isolate again. Only have a further test if you develop the symptoms.

My worry is that me and DD7 have tested negative. DD17 is positive. We all have to isolate for 10 days together, so me and DD7 could potentially catch covid in the remaining days and then spread it without knowing if we don't have symptoms.

If you get symptoms you start a new isolation period though!

That is in England.

You can develop symptoms at any point during the original ten days.

The self isolation period used to be fourteen days but it was reduced to ten days in mid December to encourage compliance.

There have been reports of people developing symptoms right up to the final days of isolation!

This was me, it’s such a worry isn’t it. We self isolated with our daughter.
Tested negative 10 days ago. Finished isolation today. I was worried I could have caught it off her on say day 6?
I opted to get a postal test and did that on day 7, came back negative so I’m assuming I am as safe as I can be.
She had no symptoms other than a sore throat. Only went for the test as her brother had been in contact with someone positive so she went with no real reason.
She was positive he was negative.
5 in our house, she was the only one positive.

@Cassimin thank you. This puts my mind at rest a bit as I didn't see how we could all live together and not catch it.

I tried to order a test today so I could do it on tues just to be sure but it won't let me order as I have recently ordered one 🤷🏼‍♀️

Will just have to hope we didn't catch it in the meantime.
