Do we get a choice on what vaccine we get

Seeing as the Pfizer one is more effective than the oxford one?

I'm just wondering but obviously I'd be grateful to have any one eventually

No, I don’t think we do.

Littleroundsponge · 14/01/2021 19:19

I wouldn't have thought so

Spodge · 14/01/2021 19:20

No.

Crumpetycrump · 14/01/2021 19:20

No

Well actually yes if you have suffered with anaphylaxis- my nurse friend turned down the Pfizer vaccine before Christmas snd gig the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine this week.

pensivepigeon · 14/01/2021 19:22

Hmm, what if you've counterindications (to the Pfizer) such as severe allergies?

ssd · 14/01/2021 19:30

I wondered if they are giving the Pfizer one to CEV and elderly people and the oxford one to say under 60s with no underlying health problems

Guess it's just availability that drives everything

As above; if you have a history of anaphylaxis to more than one medication you could be offered the Oxford vaccine instead of Pfizer. For now in other cases you take what is available at the time.

ohwhattodowithmylife · 14/01/2021 19:54

No, you get what's available

MonkeyPuddle · 14/01/2021 19:56

No not through choice, but by clinical need. Same as you don’t choose which flu jab, Hep A jab etc.

Daisy829 · 14/01/2021 19:58

I believe the Pfizer is mainly being given out in hospitals as they have facilities for storage. The Oxford is more likely to be used at the hubs that are being set up. I’ll take either.

I thought this however it would appear not always - MIL had pfizer today via a gp hub.

No

Daisy829 · 14/01/2021 20:05

Oh that’s interesting @Frazzled2207 I was just going off what my sil had told me as she’s a nurse but that’s great if they are using it in the community too. Let’s just hope we can get it rolled at quickly.

polkadotpixie · 14/01/2021 20:09

We kind of got a choice at work but only because they were using Pfizer at one of the hospital hubs in our trust and Oxford AstraZeneca at the other so you could book an appointment at whichever site you wanted

I'm not sure, maybe if you were willing to wait long enough, if you want it ASAP it's probably you get what you're given
