New guidance? Longer than 10 days isolation for new strain?

Can anyone point me to the guidance which was apparently updated 48h ago saying we should isolate longer than 10 days if we tested positive and still have symptoms?

Today was supposed to be my last day isolating after I tested positive. Test and Trace phoned today and asked me if I still had a cough (yes), runny nose and sneezing(yes), temperature (no, never had one) or D&V (no).

They said I must continue to isolate, and to phone 111 for medical advice, because their guidance has been updated in past 48h due to new scientific evidence about the new variant being transmitted when we still have symptoms. But previously T&T advised me that my symptoms might continue for weeks and the only one that would require further isolation would be fever. Advice today now says cough, runny nose mean I must continue isolating.

I phoned 111 as instructed, they told me the instruction was to isolate for a further 2 days and then phone them back for more information.

What?!?!? Are they just making this up as we go?

This has always been the case I believe or at least for the last few months , I know the NHS guidance had listed to say if you have a fever, sneezing / runny nose or feeling nauseous you still need to isolate past the 10 days.

Our school are now saying they hat KW bubbles have to isolate for 14 days a number of staff member have started to show symptoms 12 days after exposure to a positive case.

We’re in London so new variant area.

The school did reference guidance from the WHO which advises 14 days.

Although cough wasn't listed as it did state that cough could last weeks.

When to keep self-isolating
Keep self-isolating if you have any of these symptoms after the 10 days:
• a high temperature or feeling hot and shivery
• a runny nose or sneezing
• feeling or being sick
• diarrhoea
Only stop self-isolating when these symptoms have gone.

I was told on the phone by test and trace last week that my dc had to isolate for 10 days. At the end of that, if he had a fever, he would have to continue isolating but not with any of the other symptoms.

Isn't it interesting is most of those symptoms wouldn't qualify you for a test in the first place!

sirMelia · 14/01/2021 14:25

Yes nutty that's what I though too! Runny nose doesn't qualify you to be tested in the first place!

Thanks coveting for the link to the advice. On the website it says above it that if you just have a cough still you can stop isolating as that can last weeks. But runny nose and sneezing should continue to isolate.
