There won't be any further tightening of restrictions and schools stand a chance of going back mid Feb

Just that really - I think there's a chance with the case numbers dropping that there won't be further restrictions imposed and there's quite possibly a chance of schools returning on some basis mid Feb.

Trying to think positive today!

Let's hope they are working on some mitigation this time. Its criminal that everyone was thrown in together in September with hand wash, bubbles of 100s and a bit of a draft through a window.

Throw some money at education. We need PPE, social distancing (no idea how), mass testing done regularly. It doesnt haven't to be all or nothing (nothing being huge amounts of KW provision).

MarshaBradyo · 14/01/2021 20:16

Very good to see falling cases, hope it continues as yes further restrictions not as likely.

Schools are a priority so agree with pp on this first

Will see on timing

Perfect28 · 14/01/2021 20:17

Numbers dropping? Are you referring to the average 0.5% fall from last week because that's so small as to be statistically insignificant.

HeyManIJustWantSomeMuesli · 14/01/2021 20:18

@30not13

Source? No didn't think so ...

🙄🤐

I think OP is expressing her own hopes/opinion. The source her own thinking (how very dare you OP)
ineedaholidaynow · 14/01/2021 20:20

Schools I deal with think Easter

starrynight19 · 14/01/2021 20:20

Well let’s hope schools aren’t sent back like they were last September. As normal Sad

Delatron · 14/01/2021 20:21

I also agree the government shouldn’t be dictated by terms. They’ve acted at the last minute to close them so they should be quick and responsive to open them. On a random Tuesday in February hopefully.

The virus doesn’t know the term dates!

doubleshotespresso · 14/01/2021 20:23

@herecomesthsun

I think an element of parental choice is important so that families can balance their needs- and the risk.
100% agree with this
Randomrebel · 14/01/2021 20:24

Sorry OP but realistically I think and hope it will be beginning of March for some year groups or some sort of staggered days in and out of school between then and after Easter at best. The situation is just too bad to contemplate right now.
Hopefully after Easter they can get more school time in.

Lucieintheskye · 14/01/2021 20:31

Numbers have fallen in SOME areas SLIGHTLY over the last couple of days. Have you not seen the stats? Numbers will change daily, tomorrow there could be twice as many cases as today. False hope doesn't help anyone, and your totally educated assumptions are shite.

2boysand1princess · 14/01/2021 20:31

Schools won’t be back after feb half term. They will wait until spring is a week or 2 away. They do stand a good chance around Easter, maybe just before the Easter break if we are lucky, but that’s if we don’t get this Brazilian virus entering the country by then.

2boysand1princess · 14/01/2021 20:31

Sorry meant to type Brazilian strain

NotAnotherUserNumber · 14/01/2021 20:38

I think this might make that harder:

Squiffany · 14/01/2021 20:44

@RosesforMama

Numbers aren't dropping in the North West....
Nor the Midlands. We’re rapidly spiralling out of control atm.
Staffy1 · 14/01/2021 20:46

They haven't even given time to see if schools being open (which they are as opposed to closed totally over the Christmas break) will drive cases back up.

Is there a problem with being positive on the covid board or is it simply an area to be shrieking for further restrictions and sucking any hope out of the next couple of months?

DenisetheMenace · 14/01/2021 20:47

I think Easter is realistic.

DenisetheMenace · 14/01/2021 20:48

(The Govt. has made so many errors, opening up too wide and too fast. Surely, they will have learned something by now?)

inquietant · 14/01/2021 20:49

@pinkunicornwithacatonitsback

I can’t understand why they can’t at least try partial reopening of schools after Feb - getting some kids in even 1 or 2 days a week would make a huge difference rather than everyone in full time. I’d happily compromise at a week on, a week off if needed splitting year groups to limit numbers
Because cases, hospitalisations and deaths will go straight back up.

Operation Moonshit, what a surprise. Hope the regulator won't be bullied. The 'plan' was dangerous for schools Angry

Layladylay234 · 14/01/2021 20:52

Oooh OP, you're a brave one. In answer to your question,many people on here have a MASSIVE issue with any kind of positive thinking because THIS SITUATION IS GOING TO GO ON FOR YEARS (according to them).

I share your thinking and would encourage you to come and share your positivity on the positivity thread

That would have been a very sensible plan. As many classes have 40/60% of their pupils in on ‘essential worker’ places full time though, this won’t happen. There is not enough space to do any rotation. The government really messed up there.
