Pregnant, Covid, only cold symptoms, will be ok?

I'm 27 weeks pregnant. Do twice weekly lateral flow for work. On Monday it was positive. I've had a follow up pcr test which was positive.

I've had none of the three official symptoms. I feel like I've got a bad cold - sneezing, blocked nose, sore throat.

I'm feeling really scared. Is it possible that it won't get any worse?

I'm really shocked that I caught it. I've been extremely cautious about followed all the rules. I've had some face go face contact at work (I'm a community based hcp) but contact has been limited and I've always worn a mask. And I was a week away from stopping all face to face contact at 28 weeks.

Don’t panic op. They might be the only symptoms you get.

Rest and relax x

Thanks.
I'm wondering if anyone starts with cold symptoms but goes on to develop serious symptoms?

Try not to panic. One of the DC tested positive, barely any symptoms. We later caught but only very mild cold symptoms. It never developed past that. In fact, I've had much worse colds. I am also pregnant, was around the same stage at the time too.

PollyTookACracker · 14/01/2021 11:37

And try to keep perspective of the actual risk. I understand it's hard when you see all the stuff on here but unless you're clinically vulnerable (and I understand there isn't really any evidence to suggest pregnancy makes you anymore vulnerable to serious illness but more a precaution that it was added to the vulnerable list) or much older, the overwhelming likelihood is that you will be absolutely fine x

Porcupineintherough · 14/01/2021 12:08

Yes it's possible that you may get seriously ill but, at your age, it's unlikely. Days 5-10 are often worse than days 1-5 with cv but even then, it doesnt mean you will get seriously ill. Just take it a day at a time and liaise with 111/your gp/your midwife as necessary.

Rest as much as you can. Stay hydrated. It is quite likely that a cough will start in a day or two (but it may not).

Thanks all

@PollyTookACracker thanks for sharing your experience. I'm glad you were ok.

Unfortunately, there is evidence that pregnant women are hit harder by Coronavirus.

In the early months of the pandemic, there was no evidence that pregnant women have worse outcomes. However, more lately, there is evidence that if you need hospitalisation when pregnant, your outcomes are worse than non pregnant women, especially beyond 28 weeks.

Rcog acknowledge this, but also say pregnant women are at no greater risk, which is confusing. www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/guidelines/coronavirus-pregnancy/covid-19-virus-infection-and-pregnancy/#coronavirus

I do know that most people with a diagnosis will be fine. But it's horrible waiting to see if I'm going to be one of the unlucky ones.

I think, if I remember correctly from reading up myself, that when they 'no greater risk' it's in relation to your likelihood to get severely ill. It may have changed now but I'm sure when I read up it said that pregnant women aren't more likely than anyone else to get more severely ill from Covid. It's just if they do, they may require hospitalisation. And that most pregnant women admitted to hospital were over 28 weeks.

Although I would imagine that that would be fairly normal practice, when you get to that stage to be hospitalised quicker than someone who was not pregnant, not necessarily because you were more ill but so they could monitor the baby.

Jrobhatch29 · 14/01/2021 13:47

Hi OP my friend had it at 32 weeks. Cold symptoms that never got any worse. She is fine now! Hope you feel better soon

butterfly193 · 14/01/2021 13:48

I'm 20 weeks and tested positive today, just feel like it's a cold but anything I do makes me exhausted! Hopefully you just have mild symptoms it is pretty scary though!

Chouxbuncity · 14/01/2021 13:48

Pregnant women are no more likely to catch covid but more likely to become unwell.

However odds are in your favour that all will be absolutely fine! Try not to worry. Do you have an oxygen sats monitor? You could Amazon prime one if not just in case you feel more poorly in a few days.

weepingwillow22 · 14/01/2021 13:52

I had exactly the same symptoms and mine did not get an worse and I felt fully recovered after 2 weeks. The worst part was the anxiety over what might happen. I think for a lot of people it is so mild you barely notice it.

Ahh that's probably what I read.

Apricotta · 14/01/2021 14:04

OP I have had the same symptoms a few weeks ago and and they didn't get worse but I wasn't as far along as you, hopefully you'll be OK. Let your midwives know so just incase you have any appointments or they are called out to you for anything. Flowers

PregnantGotCovid · 14/01/2021 17:02

Thanks all.

I have spoken to the midwives @Apricotta

Hello. I am currently on day 8 of covid and also pregnant..

I started off with a cold, which developed into a cough, sore throat, extreme fatigue, headaches.. but been feeling much better today just have a cough and bit tired still. Two people I live with have no symptoms at all.

Hopefully you will just have a cold. My other symptoms developed 4 days after I took the test.

I had a positive test at 20 weeks and my symptoms didn’t get any worse than what you’ve said. I was wiped out for a few weeks though.
Make sure you ask for a growth scan once your isolation is done.... just to be safe :) I had to ask for mine!

Namechanger0800 · 14/01/2021 17:06

I had it 3 weeks ago- started with a sore throat and then a runny nose. Maybe. Abit of a headache/ sinus pain then I lost sense of smell. Never any fever, or cough. My DH also started with a sore throat but then got the full on fever and was very upset well - I was up everyday and other than the cold felt fine throughout. Hope it's the same for you OP
