Negative but all the symptoms!

Hi all, had anyone else had similar and maybe gone on to test positive later?

I started with a mild cough on Sunday. Became what I would call a can’t ignore it, definitely got a cough, on Monday so booked a test. Earliest in my area was Tuesday first thing. In this time also had diarrhoea and a headache but no fever. Had test and then on Tuesday evening and Wednesday felt dreadful. Sore throat, awful headache, coughing a lot. Fever appeared and has been getting worse (38.9 last night).

This morning I have had a negative result.

Of course I’m over the moon it’s negative but am kind of dubious given the symptoms and scared to all now to about our lives as normal just in case (we’ve all been isolating of course). I don’t feel well enough so won’t be going anywhere anyway but others in the family need to if they can.

It’s just so strange. Has anyone had anything similar and ended up testing positive later?

Dd got covid from school in December. Tested positive just after breaking up.

DH and I had the same symptoms as her and tested negative 3 times. We were both unwell for about 2 weeks.

We work from home and hadn't been anywhere or seen anyone except DD. I'm still not convinced if the tests were correct. They were all self tests and I wonder how accurate they really are.

I should mention, I still have the cough. I teach online and two of my students parents who are GPs have said it sounds like a COVID cough. I didn't know it had a particular sound but ....

There are other illnesses 🤷‍♀️ But in the current climate I’d isolate household and test again

HomeFailing · 23/01/2021 07:34

I noticed i think a slight change in the notification of results this week. We tested negative but the wording says "it's unlikely" you had the virus when tested. I'm sure the last tests we had the wording was more "you did not have virus when tested ". Also had to call a gp this week about ds cough, he'd tested negative a couple of weeks back. The doctor said he thought it was likely it was a false negative and he had had it.

whatswithtodaytoday · 23/01/2021 07:35

I would act as though you have it (and everyone else in the household too). There are such high levels around at the moment that it most likely is Covid. And even if it's not, your DSS will most likely catch whatever you have and spread it to his mum's household anyway.

I've heard several people say much the same thing & yesterday there was a thread where the DH had had 7 tests, finally getting a +ve & she wasn't sure when her isolation should count from.

I think self tests are dubious. Too easy to not do it properly.

A colleague of mine had this. Negative pcr test. He went back 2 days later and took another test and that was positive. So possible to have a false negative.

Covidcovid · 23/01/2021 07:51

Oh and a friend had all the symptoms as did her entire household, 5 of them. The others tested positive and she tested negative. Which is very unlikely in a house full of covid and all the symptoms.

My husband had all the symptoms and tested negative whereas I had a sniffly nose and a cough and tested positive. He’s also a smoker.

We both isolated until we both recovered and he continued until my window was over too.
