Free school meals (not complaining about them)

Are children that receive free school meals because they are in reception entitled to these meals at home even if they wouldn't qualify under a means tested approach? School haven't said anything but kids in school are still getting their free meals.

No, it’s only those entitled to the FSM through means testing rather than for all KS1

Thanks for that although I think it's unfair when the kids in school are still getting their meals.

Do you need them though? The pupils who really need them are still getting them. With everything going on this wouldn’t be the thing I’d get angry about.

I haven't been able to work properly since March and haven't been eligible for any government support.
My dd is entitled to a key worker place due to my husbands job but we aren't taking it. I just feel like this doesn't encourage me to not take it.
My dd is not going to go hungry but the extra food would help.

My daughter is in school I have to send in a packed lunch every day - not all kids are getting them.

Maybe if you speak to the school they might be able to help you.

It’s only for children who qualify for fsm via means testing.
To be honest, the system around qualification for fsm hasn’t ever been fair but they can’t be expected to provide vouchers or food parcels for all ks1 children. It might have been helpful for them to be able to provide parcels on a discretionary basis to struggling families who don’t qualify for fsm.
