Anyone had yellow skin after Covid?

My teen son lost his taste and smell, had a test and it came back positive. He seemed fine apart from the taste and smell. That was 2 weeks ago. Saturday he stopped at his dads, when he woke up his skin looked yellow and his Urine was dark. His dad phoned 111 and ended up seeing out of hours doctor late in the afternoon, by that point his skin colour had settled down, doctor wasn't concerned. He has been really tired, doc said could take a few week to get back to normal. Tonight his skin looks tinged with yellow again and he has stomach pains and diarrhoea. He looks like he has lost weight and he hasn't been eating and hasn't had much of an appetite. I'm trying to make sure he drinks fluids. I will also be ringing the doctor tomorrow.

Has anyone experienced anything similar?

His liver function and gall bladder should be checked. Did they run any tests when you last saw the doctor?

ExpulsoCorona · 12/01/2021 22:16

Please ring 111 again now. His jaundice needs to be investigated.

Mackerelpizza · 12/01/2021 22:18

If he's jaundiced I'm not sure why you're not calling 111 now.

Msmcc1212 · 12/01/2021 22:19

Agree. Ring 111 now. That does need to be checked out ASAP. Better to be over cautious than under cautious. Good luck. Let us know how he does.

Could be Gilbert’s syndrome, which can present like that after an illness. It’s a genetic thing that’s annoying but not particularly harmful. I agree that he needs checking out tho.

Please get immediate urgent medical advice, and if you must, take him to A&E. Any viral infection - so not just Covid - can set up a dangerous cascade in which the immune system doesn't switch off properly and attacks the body itself. It can cause very, very serious damage and VERY quickly. To be clear - I saw a case of this very reaction only two years ago and a perfectly fit teenager was close to death within hours and spent several weeks in hospital. It may not be that serious, but you must not take the risk. Get a doctor now. Not a telephone service - a doctor.

Pollaidh · 12/01/2021 22:28

Ring 111. Covid is a multiorgan disease. This could be liver damage from Covid (there are reports of it, though according to an article I saw in the Lancet, it's not usually severe so try not to worry). The jaundice etc could possibly be a sign he's got more Covid-related inflammation than his other symptoms might suggest.

Not a doctor btw, so see a real one.

He saw a doctor Saturday at the hospital and doctor didn't seem concerned at all. Didn't run any tests, I was planning on phoning GP in the morning but I'll give 111 a ring see what they say. Thanks for the replies

How's your son today OP?

Msmcc1212 · 13/01/2021 08:50

Hope he’s ok OP.

I hope your doc runs some test asap. I just want to say that my elderly mum and my 1 yr old nephew seemed to have a slight yellow tinge to their skin about 2-3 weeks post covid. Well on the photos i saw of them i thought they loooked a bit yellow, but I didn’t want to say ! It wasn’t dramatic though. my mum was going for bloods anyway - her liver was fine.

anothernamechange224466 · 13/01/2021 18:36

He's had bloods taken today. He seems better in himself today, still looks slightly yellow but probably unnoticeable to anyone else.

Thanks everyone for your replies.

Glad he is doing well.
Always good to get an update to help other traders in future too.

Hi everyone, I said I'd update. My sons blood results were all ok, he's not 100% but he is slowly getting there Smile I think it's just gunna take a few weeks for him to completely get over the virus.
