Exercise isn't the reason for high transmission

Tens of millions of people are working in small offices or interacting all day with the public. Hour upon hour spent next to infectious people, and whilst masks might lower transmission somewhat, they're not enough to stop you getting infected in these places.

On my 90 minute dog walk today I saw one person from a long distance (I drove a few miles to somewhere quiet).

Why focus on the trivial when the main problems are indoor mixing at work and schools? Who cares if Boris goes on a bike ride, or someone drives 10 miles to exercise - it makes essentially no difference if done sensibly.

@RandomGrammarPun. Neither do I and I think burning spitting runners on stakes in the town square would be a perfectly appropriate balance.

For those that make the claim that oyu could end up in a car accident - whilst this is true, the number of hospital visits due to DIY accidents is 10 times higher than those due to car accidents.

If you stop people from doing one pretty risk free thing, they may well end up doing something that is actually higher risk.

Yanbu OP.
Accidents in the home are a lot more likely than driving 10 miles to go for a walk and transmission risk outside is extremely low.

Quite. Hospitalisations involving slippers are quite astonishing! I just hope the #staysafe #staythefuckathome crew exercise great caution when getting dressed or wearing domestic footwear Grin

(Realises that a lot of it will be correlated with frail people at high risk of falls, but even so...)

Absolutely!

I supect that during CovidTimes there will be a huge increase in the accident category "tripping over the Amazon box left at the bottom of the stairs" Grin

The "don't travel for exercise" thing is aimed at those who drive 100 miles to climb Snowdon in conditions which are inappropriate for the inexperienced, in the process often parking dangerously. North Wales Police towed away dozens of dangerously parked cars last year. Road conditions can also be treacherous at this time of year, one idiot drove a relatively short distance (20 miles) to see the snow on Moel Famau and wrote off his car in the process.

I really can't blame people for going for walks and a chat with a coffee at this time of year and in the absence of anything else to do. Exercise doesn't have to mean actual out of breath cardio. I can't bubble with my dp even though he lives alone as I need to with my parents but we went for a long walk at the weekend, stayed apart, because we are adults who can control ourselves and got a coffee AND a bacon roll from the takeaway place. Since Feb we have spent virtually no time together - It would be utterly disproportionate to try and ban this.

Which, let's face it is reckless and anti-social anyway. Going up Snowdon in a pair of Converse and your lunch in a carrier bag never was cool.

Presumably the reason for the police hanging out at Foremark was connected with parking issues in May and prats abandoning parking their cars along blind bends because they couldn't take the hint that the car park was full, but that clearly is being less problematic in January. Being a lowland, managed trail is not a significant health and safety issue. And legally meeting for a walk is not a Covid issue.

Can’t abide the great, pasty wassock but don’t see what the fuss was about. 7 miles is a local cycle ride 🤷‍♀️
